CHAPTER I
BUSINESS CONCEPT
INTRODUCTION
Economic, population growth and industrialization in the world increases the
amount of waste. As a consequence of the inevitable use of natural resources, the
consumption of wastes are growing and have reached huge amounts that threaten
environment and human health due to its quantity and harmful contents. For this
purpose, waste policies should be developed and waste management studies should be
carried out particularly in the recycling field to prevent landfill problems.
PET, is the acronym
for Polyethylene Terephthalate, its chemical name
polyester, is a clear, strong and lightweight plastic that is commonly used for
packaging food and beverages especially convenience-sized softdrinks, juices and
water.
The basic building blocks of PET are ethylene glycol and terephthalic acid,
which are combined to form a polymer chain. The resulting spaghetti-like strands of
PET are extruded, quickly cooled, and cut into small pellets. The resin pellets are then
heated to a molten liquid that can be easily extruded or molded into items of practically
any shape.
PET is proven safe for contact with food and beverages by the FDA and healthsafety agencies throughout the world. The safety of PET for food, beverage,
pharmaceutical and medical applications has been repeatedly demonstrated through
extensive studies, regulatory approvals, testing, and its widespread acceptance for more
than 30 years.
Review of Related Literature
Since their invention in the 20th century, plastics have changed our lives,
bringing many benefits but also huge damage to the environment. The biggest problem
with plastics is that many types are incredibly long lasting and can take hundreds of
years to breakdown. This is causing major problems, including the buildup of plastic
pollution across the land and seas.
Plastics, for all intents and purposes, do not biodegrade, so disposed-of waste
amasses on the grounds and in the oceans, getting ingested by creatures and delivering
harmful synthetics to the detriment of our living surroundings. (Alhazmi, Almansour,
Aldhafeeri, 2021)
Plastics are produced from the oil that is considered as non-renewable
resource. Because plastic has the insolubility about 300 years in the nature, it is
considered as a sustainable waste and environmental pollutant. So reusing or
recycling of it can be effectual in mitigation of environmental impacts relating to it. It
has been proven that the use of plastic bottles as innovative materials for building can
be a proper solution for replacement of conventional materials. (Mohammed
Jalaluddin, 2017)
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a versatile material and has a wide range
of applications such as clothing, acoustic panels, sportswear, agricultural nets,
nonwovens, sheets and films, straps, engineering resins, food and beverage bottles,
bottles, packaging materials, reinforcement in building construction, etc. Among these
products, bottle grade PET is generally used for water and beverage packaging due to
its lightweight, inexpensive price, resistance to microorganisms, and light. Bottles of
water, soft drinks, and other beverages constitute 83–84%of global PET resin
requirement. Furthermore, the projected demand for PET packaging materials is
forecasted to reach 20 million tons by 2019 with an annual increase of 4.6% (Sarioğlu,
Kaynak, 2018)

INDUSTRY REVIEW
According to UNEP, “Every minute,an equivalent of one garbage truck of
plastic is dumped into the ocean. This marine litter and plastic pollution endangers
aquatic life, threatens human health and results in myriad hidden costs for the
economy.”
Plastic is an essential part of production, and an increase in consumption and
demands of the public can also lead to increase in plastic production. The problem is
that littering and improper waste management can trigger the environmental threats.
Plastic pollution pose serious threats not only to the environment, but our health as well.
With this, CLBEST longs to participate in eradicating the plastic waste that
ends up in rivers, drainage, and oceans. With the help of technology, CLBEST will
produce bed sheets and pillowcases, named Eco SlumbRe, and will
sustainability in the marketof Olongapo City.

MARKETING FEASIBILITY
MARKET STUDY
According to The World Bank, “Like many rapidly developing countries, the
Philippines grapples with unsustainable plastic production/consumption and
insufficient solid waste management infrastructure. A staggering 2.7 million tons of
plastic waste are generated in the Philippines each year, and an estimated 20 percent
ends up in the ocean.”
With the hopes of lessening the plastic waste, CLBEST offers sustainable bed
sheets and pillow cases, Eco SlumbRe, made from PET bottles. The proponents
gathered their data through conducting an online survey and other relevant data and
information werecollected from the City Planning Development Office.
MARKET DESCRIPTION
The market of the proposed business plan is the City of Olongapo. Based
on the gathered household population data from the City Planning Development Office
(CPDO) of Olongapo City using the 2020 Household population with the growth rate
of 1 percent we have calculated the projected population as seen at Table 3.1, there are

number of householdsin Olongapo City.

TARGET MARKET
CLBEST targets the customers from household population. According to
livinginthephilippines.com “In Philippine society, a lot of people sleep together. For
example, if you have 4 or 5 kids, they often all sleep in the same bedroom, even in the
same bed together. If cousins live under the same roof, they are also part of the sleeping
group. On the other hand, in the West, sleeping arrangements are normally quite
different. In the United States, generally each child has his/her own bedroom.
Sometimes, if there are not enough rooms, two kids might share a bedroom, but these
days it is more the norm that each child has a bedroom of his own.”
CLBEST intends to preserve this kind of culture, with respect to each household
norms. The CLBEST obtained data from the Olongapo City Planning and Development
Office,
and using the PSA data of 2020 with a growth rate of one percent, the household
population of 2022 is 66,351.
According to the survey results of the question: Family members, we have
