Exploring the pre-colonial

rent a truck and trailer, and stock up on
food and gas. We will primarily be
living out f the trailer for the trip. We’ll
route through several historical sites,
as well as a campground, hotel, and a
few local restaurants. We’ll end the trip
at Las Cruces International Airport,
where we’ll fly back. The round trip will
be around a week in total, plus the

Preparations
Due to our route going through large stretches of
undeveloped land, we won’t be able to reliably
find food and accommodations along our
relatively long route. Instead, we’ll rent a trailer
and truck, which will be able to take care of
accommodations for the length of the trip.
We’ll also stock up on gas to carry with us, since
there aren’t enough gas stations along the route,
and we’ll buy food from Harmon’s Grocery to eat
along the route. The trailers have working
kitchens and refrigerators to store and prepare
the food, and enough space to carry the gas.
Destinations
Antelope Creek
phase
Antelope Creek Phase was a
native American culture that
existed between 900 AD and
1500 AD. They subsisted on
cultivated plants, hunted
bison, and foraged foods.
They had large houses in and
around the cliffs, some of
which held up to 20 people.
Many sites have been
discovered, and more are
being found over time.
Chaco Culture National
Historical Park
The Ancient Puebloan people of the Southwest are the
origin of many of the dwellings on our journey. They seem
to date back to around the 12 century BC, but many of
their stone structures survive today. Since this area is a
national park, we will be able to get tours and access other
amenities, plus trails for biking and other activities. Our
exact itinerary will, of course, depend on our personal
scheduling and interests
Ancestral Pueblo
Dwellings
While it may not be a national park,
there’s still more to see of this
ancient culture. This particular area
may have been inhabited by over
1200 people, and archeological
research has revealed what the
various areas may have been used
for
White Sands National
Park
Aside from being a beautiful area to have
a picnic, white sands national park is
home to the first known human footprints
in North America, dating back to between
21 and 23 thousands years ago. There are
many sets of footprints throughout the
park.
There are also ancient hearths, showing
where fires where burned nearly 4
millennia ago, and numerous other
remains of our ancestors littered about
the park
