Ancient America Road Trip Exploring the pre-colonial settlements of the southwest Outline of the Route Regional Airport. From there, we will rent a truck and trailer, and stock up on food and gas. We will primarily be living out f the trailer for the trip. We’ll route through several historical sites, as well as a campground, hotel, and a few local restaurants. We’ll end the trip at Las Cruces International Airport, where we’ll fly back. The round trip will be around a week in total, plus the HERE IS THE LINK TO THE ROUTE Our route will start in St. George time taken to fly in and out, which will vary depending on where we start 5/24/2023 2 Preparations Due to our route going through large stretches of undeveloped land, we won’t be able to reliably find food and accommodations along our relatively long route. Instead, we’ll rent a trailer and truck, which will be able to take care of accommodations for the length of the trip. We’ll also stock up on gas to carry with us, since there aren’t enough gas stations along the route, and we’ll buy food from Harmon’s Grocery to eat along the route. The trailers have working kitchens and refrigerators to store and prepare the food, and enough space to carry the gas. Destinations Antelope Creek phase Antelope Creek Phase was a native American culture that existed between 900 AD and 1500 AD. They subsisted on cultivated plants, hunted bison, and foraged foods. They had large houses in and around the cliffs, some of which held up to 20 people. Many sites have been discovered, and more are being found over time. Chaco Culture National Historical Park The Ancient Puebloan people of the Southwest are the origin of many of the dwellings on our journey. They seem to date back to around the 12 century BC, but many of their stone structures survive today. Since this area is a national park, we will be able to get tours and access other amenities, plus trails for biking and other activities. Our exact itinerary will, of course, depend on our personal scheduling and interests Ancestral Pueblo Dwellings While it may not be a national park, there’s still more to see of this ancient culture. This particular area may have been inhabited by over 1200 people, and archeological research has revealed what the various areas may have been used for White Sands National Park Aside from being a beautiful area to have a picnic, white sands national park is home to the first known human footprints in North America, dating back to between 21 and 23 thousands years ago. There are many sets of footprints throughout the park. There are also ancient hearths, showing where fires where burned nearly 4 millennia ago, and numerous other remains of our ancestors littered about the park
