A SEMINAR ON INDUSTRIAL SAFETY SYSTEM GUIDED BY : Dr.S.A.PATEL SKPCPER, GANPAT UNIVERSITY PRESENTED BY: PATEL ZALAK.B M.Pharm(QA) SEM-II EN.NO:21024611009 CONTENT : ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● Objectives Causes of industrial accidents Four E’s of safety Chemical safety guidelines Industrial safety system 1. Process control system 2. Fire and gas system 3. Safety shutdown system General safety guidelines & rules Safety and health goals references OBJECTIVES OF INDUSTRIAL SAFETY : ● ● ● ● To prevent accidents in the plant by reducing the hazard to minimum. To prevent loss of life, permanent disability and the loss of income of worker by eliminating causes of accidents. To evaluate employee’s morale by promoting safe work place and good working condition. To educate all members of the organization in continuous state of safety mindless. CAUSES OF INDUSTRIAL ACCIDENTS : ● ● ● ● ● ● Unsafe conditions Work schedules Psychological conditions Machinery & equipment Unsafe acts Miscellaneous causes FOUR E’S OF SAFETY : ● Engineering : i.e. safety at the design, equipment installation stage. ● Education : i.e. education of employees in safe practices. ● Enlistment : i.e. it concerns the attitude of the employees and management towards the programmed and its purpose. ● Encouragement : i.e. to enforce adherence to safe rules and practices. CHEMICAL SAFETY GUIDELINES : ● ● ● ● Assume that any unfamiliar chemical is hazardous. Know all the hazards of the chemicals with which you work. Never underestimate the potential hazard of any chemical or combination of chemical. Never use any substance that is not properly labeled. ● ● ● ● Follow all chemical safety instructions, such as those listed in material safety data sheets(MSDS). Minimize your exposure to any chemical, regardless of its hazard rating, and avoid repeated exposure. Use personal protective equipment(PPE). Use buddy system when working with hazardous chemicals. INDUSTRIAL SAFETY SYSTEM : ● ● ● Industrial automation has minimized the human interaction with the machines but has not completely eliminated it. Industrial safety systems are introduced to protect the human who works in hazardous plants. The industrial safety system not only protect the humans but also protect the environment. PROCESS CONTROL SYSTEM : ● ● ● They are installed fpr the monitoring of the manufacturing environment. A laser diode is used for the detection of liquid or gas present in the environment. If the gas or liquid is detected, then frequency is converted to a digital signal & the processor identifies the signal received. FIRE AND GAS SYSTEMS : ● ● ● ● These system are highly sensitive. They also detect the fire within the working place. They system can be activated automatically or manually. There are other system such as pressure safety valves & emergency shutdown systems. SAFETY SHUTDOWN SYSTEM : • • 1. 2. these system are particularly helpful in the state of emergency. They can be connected to the fire & gas systems. Emergency shutdown system Emergency depressurization system PRESSURE SAFETY VALVES : ● Pressure safety valves is mechanical devices and are usually used as final safety solution when all previous system fail to prevent any further pressure accumulation and protect vessels from rupture due to over pressure. GENERAL SAFETY GUIDELINES & RULES : ● ● ● ● ● ● ● Never work alone in the laboratory. Never mouth pipette. Wear safety glasses or goggles at all time in the laboratory. Practice personal hygiene rules. No eating or drinking in the laboratory. Use PPE. Practice good housekeeping techniques. SFETY AND HEALTH GOALS : ● ● ● ● ● Provide workers with a safe work environments. Conduct routine/ regular workplace inspections. Provide PPE. Develop & implement safe work procedures and rules. Provide on- going safety training. References: ● ● Omprakash Gadgeppa Bhusnure. Chemical hazards and safety management in pharmaceutical industry.
