Dear Parents/Carers,
At Mordialloc College, we are always striving to improve the way we communicate with our students and their families. Through research of how other schools report to families
on student progress, we have updated our process and have developed a template specific to our school.
For these progress checks, we will continue to report on how your child is progressing in terms of attendance, academic performance and learning behaviours.
Our new template will now allow students and their families to:
Monitor attendance according to classes run and classes attended.
Understand how they are performing academically.
Make comparisons with learning behaviour between progress checks during the semester through the new graphical display. This will become more apparent in
Progress Check 5 later in the semester.
Please take the time to read the important information outlined below before reviewing the results.
Attendance Data
As stated in our Student Achievement Guidelines, all students are to have an attendance rate (School percentage) of at least 90%. Any student that is below 90% attendance
will need to address this to ensure that the percentage lifts above 90% by the end of the semester.
If a student has an attendance of 90% or more, they are on track. In the introductory section of our progress checks, details are given to students and their families as to what
is expected at Mordialloc College. As a guide, students and parents/ carers should consider:
Attendance of 90% or more, the student is considered on track.
Attendance of 80% - 89%, the student is encouraged to review their routine and make adjustments to increase their attendance rate.
Attendance of less than 80%, the student is strongly advised to review their routine and make adjustments to increase their attendance rate. Consultation with the
Wellbeing Team or the Home Group/ Mentor teacher is also encouraged.
Learning Behaviours
The learning behaviours used reflect our College Values including Personal Best, Respect and Responsibility. The ratings for these learning behaviours are:
Excellent
Very Good
Good
Requires Improvement (to ensure greater results, the student should love to improve their behaviours)
Impacting Progress (changes are required to enable the student to successfully complete the semester)
Learning Growth
It is important to know how our students are progressing with their learning, especially as we pick up after the Covid-19 pandemic. Teachers will comment on their students’
learning growth in terms of the Victorian Curriculum and/ or the VCAL/ VCE/ VET Study Designs. For students completing the Victorian Curriculum, a comment will be made
in reference to the expected level. This could be below the expected level, at the expected level or above the expected level. Students completing VCE/ VCAL/ VET will refer
to the Senior School Assessment Scale and/ or the level of completion of assessment outcomes.
Classwork
We expect all our students to satisfactorily complete the classwork set by the teacher during the semester in addition to benchmark tasks (Years 7 – 10), SACs/ SATs and
Outcomes (Years 11 – 12).
The teacher will either comment that the student is on track with their classwork or will note if there is some work overdue and/ or if submitting work to their personal best
standard.
Your child’s student planner outlines our College Homework policy and other valuable learning aids. Should any assistance be required, support is available for your child from
their Home Group or Mentor teacher, Year Level Coordinator, Sub-school Director, Careers team or Student Wellbeing team.
Yours Sincerely,
Marina Walsh
Assistant Principal
