The History They Left Us
“Sometimes when you’re in a dark place, you think you’ve been buried, but
actually you’ve been planted.”
For the past years, the rapid and inevitable change in Philippine Literary
History has been very significant and far-reaching. Despite its diversity, practicing
it on a daily basis, spending time in studying its variety, conducting events to
recognize its contribution and producing literary pieces in the market can
somehow help us practice adaptability.
Digital Technology made producing literary pieces a lot easier. There are
several platforms where you can share your works of art to the world. If practiced
on a daily basis, like how I try to produce daily poems or chapters of some stories
that I wrote, I believe that writers could adapt, or even start a new remarkable era
for Philippine Literary History. The platform called Wattpad is one of the most
famous sites where one can share collection of stories and poems. There are
novels available for free reading, while some are paid to let the author earn.
In relation, this platform made way for authors to publish their own physical
book. There are publishing houses that offers a great deal in exchange of the
tangible proof of their outstanding writing. As a grade 11 student, I can somehow
afford to support them and grab my own copy. I also have a lot of peers with the
same interest, causing to further growth of Philippine Literacy.
Although pre-enlightenment era hit a rock deep during their times because
of the colonizers, their contribution especially in our country’s independence
remained astounding. Several events have been organized to give recognition
for works that made it in our educational system. The issues they tackle remain
relevant, as if they know that it would fit any circumstance, with different
interpretations. However, these novels are now having a retelling, with a touch of
fiction. These adaptations rekindled youths’ interest regarding our literary history,
as well as our ancestor’s life before.
It was never easy to produce works but also, it was never too hard to sustain
and later on, grow further, the history they left us. As one of the youths, I have
the responsibility to be the fruit that our ancestors cropped. Reformation as a
product of adaptability would not start anywhere, not with anyone, but with me.
With us.
