Although related, these two terms are not interchangeable and should not be substituted for one another. Global warming refers to the recent and ongoing rise in global average temperature near the Earth’s surface. It is caused mostly by increasing concentrations of GHGs in the atmosphere. Global warming is causing climate patterns to change. However, it represents only one aspect of climate change. Climate change refers to any significant change in the measures of climate lasting for an extended period. In other words, changes in temperature, precipitation, or wind patterns, among other effects, occur over several decades or longer and with that I say the earth's climate has always changed and will always change. Natural disasters Over the course of the Earth’s 4.5-billion-year history, the climate has changed a lot. If climate catastrophe is something we should be worried about, that time has come and gone. 38 year long droughts,1,720 feet high tsunamis, 9.5 magnitude earthquake, 18 million acres of land burnt in wildfire, The Great Hurricane that happened in (Martinique, Barbados, St. Eustatius) that lasted for 6 days, hurricane Mitch (Honduras, Nicaragua) that lasted for 15 days, Fifi (Honduras) 5 days, hurricane flora (Hati, cuba) 4 days, The disasters now are babies compared to the ones that happened in the past. 3 You blame everything on climate change. Climate changes cause everything and everything is caused by climate change and it's simply not so. PLANTS NEED CARBON DIOXIDE The excess carbon dioxide in the air isn’t a climate change problem, Trees absorb and store carbon dioxide. If forests are cleared, or even disturbed, they release carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an essential component of photosynthesis and trees are being cut down to make space to build houses for the growing population. There's simply no way we can fight any form of crisis if we don't stop deforestation. So the question is did climate change cause deforestation or was deforestation caused by climate change. ANIMALS WILL ADAPT TO CLIMATE CHANGE Darwin got the adaptation part right, plants and animals have always adapted so why do you think they will stop. Some will adapt but not all and that's ok, as a consequence of natural selection organisms are biled with the biological mechanisms that are designed to maximize their survival and reproductive success. Which is why organisms adjust to new environments or changes in their current environment. To survive, plants, animals and birds confronted with so called climate change have two options: move or adapt. There are several examples of species that have begun to adapt to the change in climate already. So the question is did climate change cause natural selection or was natural selection caused by climate change. 4 GETTING RID OF HUMANS WILL FIX THIS The earth's average temperature rose by 0.8 °C (1.5 °F) during the last century.and also during the last century something rose The global population has grown from 1 billion in 1800 to 7.9 billion in 2020 and the population now is 8,045,311,447 and is expected to reach 9 billion in the next 15 years. This increase does not benefit the planet and climate change did not cause that. So the question is did climate change cause overpopulation or was overpopulation caused by climate change. If you want to save the planet why choose renewable energy RENEWABLE ENERGY IS JUST A MONEY-MAKING SCHEME Since the whole politicization of climate change is happening everyone and their mother started to get interested in lithium batteries, solar panels and inverters and if it's one thing for sure these things don't have in common it doesn't help the planet. The way these are mined destroys the planet and it's more of a human life cricis. Renewable energy doesn’t help the planet; it only fattens the pocket of the rich. Climate change is causing many natural disasters. Countries that never had snow are getting snow. In Places like Antarctica, ice is melting at an alarming rate. Because of the change in temperature the melting of the snow is causing water level to rise, In-turn causing flooding. 5 Rebuttal The benefit of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gasses - Green plants grow faster - Many become more drought resistant, higher CO2 allows plants to use water more efficiently - More abundant vegetation Deforestation -The need for house Greed - how is it greed when we when want better for society Natural environmental changes Infrastructure Media presents natural disasters as a once in a lifetime event yet there’s evidence indicating these event’s repeat themselves. Infrastructure plays a key role in the effect of flooding & fires. If there are buildings built too close to a river with high erosion, they will fall. If plumbing and sewer systems were built and obtained properly. Building over wetlands Natural Climate changes Polar flip - south and north flip . During reversal the magnetic polarities aren’t centered . Magnetic Polarity of the earth has been seen flipped in specific areas, a polar flip is not well understood, researched and overall unknown. Historical data on natural disasters ( volcanoes erupting, floods over the decades) 6 The Canadian encyclopedia states that Canada has recorded large floods “1776, 1826, 1852 and 1861, while the worst floods of the 20th century took place in 1950, 1966, 1979 and 1997” with the average coming to be ~36 years. 3 times every 100 years seems very little. But considering we have human tracked data tracing back to the 1800's that's 223 years. That pans out to be ~7 disastrous events. These issues don’t follow a calendar either. 5 mass extinctions due to “rapid and dramatic changes in the climate” - Ordovician 430m - Inconclusive “occurred so long ago that the seafloor and the continents have all moved and significantly regenerated, covering up the evidence - Devonian 372-359m - Inconclusive scientists cannot agree on the reason for extinction or natural selection/die off - Permian-Triassic 252m - Cannot highlight one specific cause but widely agreed that a warming climate was the cause (volcano, burning coal beds, blooming microbes) Corporate views “Some companies have chosen to lobby to maintain the current regulatory status quo, to delay change and to call for limited action on climate change.” (Grantham Research Institute of Climate Change). Companies all around the world have a collective interest in keeping the current trend of fossil fuel burning industries from switching over to renewable or non-emissive energies. Oil plays a large part in the global economy, if we stopped using oil a large portion of jobs and revenue would cause untold havoc on the global economy. 7 Corporations have been lobbying to prevent supposed “eco-friendly” investments in order to protect their employees and revenue. At the start of this year, the oil and gas industry was responsible for 10.3 million American jobs. Between 2012 and 2025, the oil and gas industry is projected to provide $1.6 trillion in federal and state tax revenue, supporting the maintenance of schools, hospitals, and public infrastructure across the country. In Canada, the GDP by 2020 was 2.213 billion dollars (source), and the oil and gas industry generated over 105 billion to that GDP and provided 400 thousand jobs (source). This means that the oil and gas industry provides around 4.75% of Canada's GDP. The IEA reports that in 2021, renewable energy constituted 12.55% of global energy production, including electricity, heating and transportation. Renewable energy sources have many downsides, namely; Electricity Generation Capacity is Still Not Large Enough, Renewable Energy Can be Unreliable, Huge Upfront cost, and they Still Generate Pollution. Many renewable energy forms or their manufacturing processes emit greenhouse gasses like particulates into the air, carbon dioxide, or worse – methane. This is partly because the resources needed for renewables are built using fossil fuels (source), removing the benefits all together. If climate change is mostly caused by human activity, then climate change can be managed using the same mechanisms. i.e. If more car pollution implies increasing temperatures, then less car pollution implies a cessation of increasing temperatures. ● During covid greenhouse gasses, air pollution decreased yet after almost 3 years there wasn’t any significant impact environmentally ● Were pushed to share rides, take the bus, go on a train. Yet after almost 3 years of shut down, factories at half production, there wasn’t any change 8 Dying habitatess, animals, sea life ● Pollution “India, and Bangladesh, where domestic and industrial wastes are dumped into rivers without treatment” Question ● Is there any scientific proof that people are causing climate change? ● Do natural environmental changes affect climate change? ● The government spends a lot of money on climate change, how is it that we are not seeing any change? Who do we listen to, the government or the scientists? Closing Point If something is so important to the extent we portray climate change, a threat that is said to be the “end to all”, why haven’t we taken immediate action? Self preservation, species preservation, is biologically engraved within us. If climate change were perceived as a true threat we would have taken action decades ago.
