I first heard about MATC when I came to Milwaukee, WI as a Ukrainian refugee during the summer of 2022. I enrolled in the ESL program there to improve my English language skills. I was amazed at how deeply immersed the instructors are in helping the students and the vast resources that the college has to offer. The faculty were more than happy to help answer my questions and motivate me to pursue a degree here to start my life again after it was so horrifically turned upside down by war. I have never felt more motivated than I am now to pursue my education at this amazing institution. I believe the most significant event in my life is the day of February 24th, 2022. I was sound asleep when I heard helicopters flying over my home and air raid sirens. I knew that this was real and my life would forever change. My family and I had to live in a bomb shelter for weeks with little food and commodities. We lived everyday not knowing if we would see the next. It truly made me appreciate the life we had and never to miss another opportunity. With the generosity of kind Americans, I was able to move to Milwaukee and restart my life. It has been very difficult to adapt and learn the language, but from my past experiences during the war on Ukraine, I have decided to never give up and to reach my full potential here. My family is still back in Ukraine, but they are proud and support me in every way to further my education here and contribute to this beautiful country. What are your career goals after graduating from MATC and why? What inspires you to achieve them? Be as specific as possible. I decided to make my future in this great country and join the healthcare force by being an ultrasound cardiovascular echocardiography technician. I hope to serve the Milwaukee community after I graduating by working at a local hospital and giving back to the kind citizens that opened their homes to me to escape a war-torn country. My family and loved ones inspire me to self-actualize and reach my maximum potential in this new life in the United States.
