What is the purpose of the cryolite in the process?
Cryolite is used to reduce some of the costs in extracting Aluminium,
in fact it lowers the melting point of Aluminum, reducing it from 2030°C to about 900 - 1000°C
(Cryolite is an Aluminium compound with a much lower melting point than Aluminium oxide)
