Citation of the article: Krockow. (2022, October 6). Is It Dangerous to Believe in a Just World? Psychology Today. Retrieved April 23, 2023, from https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/stretching-theory/202210/is-it-dangerous-beli eve-in-just-world The article describes the scenario of Princess Diana, where her death after years provoked controversial commentaries. Some people believe Princess Diana deserve this car accident due to her other actions. This is a classical comment of someone who believed in the just world hypothesis. Where people deserved because of what they have done. However, the author also pointed out that these people have criminalized the victims. Furthermore, the author stressed that the just world hypothesis had damaged the people around Diana’s relatives. It created negative rumors about Diana which have sadden them (Krockow). I personally find people who believe in the just world hypothesis tend to make hasty generalized conclusions about individuals. As an example, why is Diana in a car accident? Some would believe, if other people are fine on the streets, then it is Diana’s fault. If we really look back on Diana’s car crash, we would find it is deeply related to the chasing of paparazzi. Then, is Diana fully at fault for her car crash? No, and it is hurtful to assume this.
