Ethnic group Skin colour is not important because it’s how you respond to the sun Being white/black depends on the shape of your face /nose /mouth In Sudan, people are white because they have the face feature of a Caucasian person. Europeans are the ones who started this ethnic groups because they thought they were better. The way you look defines your ethnic group (Your parents may be from different ethnic group, but you belong to the one you look like What you share with your ethnic group: 1-Language 2-History 3-Values 4-Territory 5-Religion 6-Phenotype(depends) People chose their nicknames not your names Nation state : people in a state that have the same language In Morocco people’s last name may show to which ethnic group they belong to but not always because the French named some of them. Druze a religion on Syria [Ismail] Hamzah al Tazi, he did missionaries in Iran 1816, Druze went from Lebanon to Syria(Escaping meranites from Christian) Sultan al alatrachc was Druze (kayjih dak farif al atrach) Druze were and are still a minority. Laws before 1990 that were legal/ white people had privileges It was legal to discriminate based on colour From 1948-1990 they kept races separate They charge rent more to north Africans in France. (it’s illegal) o Defacto: It’s illegal but there is no law to stop it State based discrimination: In Israel there is state based discrimination. [Put you in dangerous places so that you die (Palestinians and black jews)] They want Iran to be controlled by the us. They build settlements in the west bank to force Palestinians to move. Palestinians are obliged to move because thy take water from them. Discrimination based on rights: take rights from people based on who they are In the us they dislike Muslims because they think they are evil 911 incident. Critical race theory (you are Arab means you are bad 911) During slavery they chose your religion/last name/The language you speak… People in Morocco brought in slaves from north Africa White people feel guilty for what they did in the past that’s why they teach the wrong history (or not all the truth ). Results of discrimination: 1-Genocide the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group. 2-forced assimilation an involuntary process of cultural assimilation of religious or ethnic minority groups during which they are forced to adopt language, identity, norms, mores, customs, traditions, values, mentality, perceptions, way of life, and often religion and ideology of established and generally larger ... 3-Ethnic cleansing: Force a population out. the mass expulsion or killing of members of one ethnic or religious group in an area by those of another. 4-Colonization: a country forces it’s law ,traditions on a country 5-Culutral colonization the extension of colonial state power through cultural knowledge, activities, and institutions (particularly education and media) or the systematic subordination of one conceptual framework or cultural identity over others. Example of cultural colonisation: Moroccans like Americans, they dress, eat … like them. Muslims were forced to leave by Serbians. Population changed between 1920 , Greeks were forced to go back to Greece , and Turkish were forced to go back to Natolia(turkey). We are influenced by the Americans (western countries), we dress, eat, even talk like them[cultural colonization].
