Think laterally!
Are you a student of art, music, engineering, communication, journalism or other non-medical
discipline? Why not apply for a $10,000 Rethinking Emergency Medicine Research (REMR) Grant?
The REMR grant scheme has been established to provide an opportunity for university students to
collaborate with staff from the Princess Alexandra Hospital Emergency Department to effect change
for patients and/or staff.
To date, six grants have been awarded to honours, masters and PhD students in Creative Industries,
Psychology, Economics, Built Environment and Architecture, and The Humanities. Below are the
titles of the projects that have been awarded grants.

How well do bilingual and monolingual practitioners and patients understand each other?

It’s An Emergency: Understanding Race Within Medicine.

Visualising care: Using art to explore care in the emergency department.

Use of crowd sourcing data to create emergency response scenarios.

Influence of patient behaviour and personality on hospital presentation.

PA sounds – an auditory snapshot of the lands where healing takes place.
Three further grants are currently on offer. Funds may cover research staff time, living stipends,
consumables, publishing and conference attendance. A further $20,000 may be available to
implement and translate eligible projects.
