Several have mentioned that they follow a Piagetian or Vygotskian approach. I’m not sure what that means; can you enlighten me? My Advice to Parents Hi Parent, I know you are overwhelmed in choosing what’s best for your child’s education. You mentioned Piaget and he is known as the greatest developmental psychologist of all time (p.41). I believe that the school knows and values the children’s learning experiences. Also, it is nice to apply new approaches to children especially when they are in the developing stage and help them in learning new things, and in that way, they can advance their thinking. I heard you mention Vygotsky too, bless your heart that the school also knows its approach to teaching children. Lev Vygotsky was the pioneer of the sociocultural perspective (p47). His approach is that people do not develop in isolation but rather in relationship to the culture of their community, by words and actions of other people. You need not worry about these approaches to learning education because they are crucial in the cognitive development of a child. Just do your research about these approaches, and visit often the school that you think is best for your child’s needs.
