Proper use
NOTICE:
The tool changer is to be used only in its original state with its original accessories, without any unauthorized
changes and within the scope of its defined parameters of use.
Zimmer GmbH shall accept no liability for any damage caused by improper use.
The tool changer may only be used in the original condition with original accessories.
Use outside of the defined parameters is not permitted. Unauthorized electrical or mechanical modifications must not be
made.
The tool changer is designed exclusively for pneumatic operation. It is not suited for operation with other media such as

changer loose parts with tools mounted thereon. Forces and torques that the tool changer has to absorb must not exceed
the recommended parameters.
For the supply of pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical actuators, several transmission elements are available depending on the
design size. Optionally, the media transmission can be set up with transmission elements at corresponding interfaces on
the tool changer.
4.

5.3 Protection class
NOTICE:
6.
The tool changer achieves protection class IP64 in all mounted positions of installation.
Function
The tool changer is a two-piece machine element. The fixed part
is mounted on a handling system.
The loose part
is mounted directly on the tool. The connection of the two elements is form fit and frictionally fit using
the locking bolts
in the locking sleeve
. The required stroke is generated by a double-acting pneumatic rotor cylinder
. An integrated spring
acts as an energy store and preserves the capability of the tool changer to be locked in the
event of a power failure or interruption.
A fixed part can be operated with as many loose parts as desired. This significantly reduces set-up times for tool exchanging.

Installation
7.1 Safety notes
CAUTION:
Non-compliance may result in severe injuries!
Risk of injury in the event of unexpected movement of the machine or system into which the tool changer is to
be installed.
►►Switch off the power supply to the machine before all work.
►►Secure the machine against being switched on unintentionally.
►►Check the machine for any residual energy.
NOTICE:
When using the hose-free connections, the O-rings must be inserted into the customer-prepared pockets of the
holes on the mounting surface before installation.
Non-compliance may result in material damage
It is mandatory to observe the specified screw length.
7.2 General installation information
The gripper must be installed on a mounting surface in accordance with the specifications for flatness.
Length < 100 mm  permitted flatness imperfection < 0.02 mm
Length > 100 mm  permitted flatness imperfection < 0.05 mm
ÖÖMounting screws are not included in the scope of delivery.
ÖÖStrength class of the mounting screws ≥ 8.8 (DIN EN ISO 4762)
ÖÖObserve the tightening torque of the mounting screws.
ÖÖMake sure the mounting surface is sufficiently rigid and flat.
ÖÖRefer to the technical data sheet for the exact positions.

9.
Maintenance
Maintenance-free operation of the tool changer is guaranteed for up to 5 million cycles.
The maintenance interval may shorten under the following circumstances:
• Operation with compressed air that does not comply with DIN ISO 8573-1 [2:4:1]
• Dirty environment
• Improper use and use that does not comply with the power specifications
• Observe ambient temperature; lubricants harden faster!
Even though the tool changer is, as mentioned, maintenance-free, perform a regular visual inspection to check for any corrosion, damage or contamination.
We recommend using Zimmer Customer Service for maintenance and the replacement of seals.
Dismantling and reassembling the tool changer without authorization may result in complications, as special installation
equipment is required in some cases.
Zimmer GmbH shall not be liable in the event of unauthorized dismantling and reassembly of the tool changer or in the
event of any malfunctions or damage resulting therefrom.
10. Accessories/scope of delivery
INFORMATION:
If any accessories not sold or authorized by Zimmer GmbH are used, the function of the tool changer cannot be
guaranteed.
The accessories from Zimmer GmbH are specifically designed for the individual energy elements.
Information on the corresponding optional accessories included in the scope of delivery can be found at
www.zimmer-group.com.
11. Transportation/storage/preservation
►►Transport and storage of the tool changer must be done only using the original packaging.
►►If the tool changer has already been installed on the superordinate machine unit, you must ensure that no unintentional
movements can take place during transport. Before commissioning the machine after transport, check all power and
communication connections as well as all mechanical connections.
►►If the product is stored for an extended period, the following points are to be observed:
ÖÖKeep the storage location as dust-free and dry as possible.
ÖÖAvoid temperature fluctuations/observe and adhere to the temperature range.
ÖÖAvoid wind/drafts/water condensation formation.
ÖÖPackage the product.
ÖÖDuring storage, it must be kept away from direct sunlight.
►►Clean all components. There must be no soiling left on the components.
►►Visually inspect all of the components.
►►Remove all foreign substances.
►►Properly remove potential corrosion spots.
►►Close electrical connections using suitable covers.
12. Decommissioning and disposal
INFORMATION:
When the tool changer reaches the end of its operational phase, it can be completely disassembled and disposed of. The tool changer must be completely disconnected from the power supply. The tool changer can be
disassembled and properly disposed of according to material group. When disposing of it, observe the locally
applicable environmental regulations and codes and regulations for disposal.
