Scientific Method 1. Observation 2. Identifying of problem 3. Gathering of data 4. Formulating a hypothesis 5. Testing the hypothesis 6. Making a conclusion Qualitative – does not involve measurements and numbers. Quantitative – collection of data which is primarily focused on numbers and values. Inference – a conclusion based upon known information or observation. Observation - information gathered using the five senses: sight, taste, touch, hearing, and smell. Hypothesis – tentative answer or a trial idea about the nature of the observations. Variables – factors whose effects are to be studied. 1. Independent – what you change in the experiment. 2. Dependent – what you observed or what happened in the experiment. 3. Control – what is the same in the experiment. Control setup – uses all the same equipment, same conditions, but no variables are tested. Experimental setup – set up exactly the same as the control group, but one thing that you want to measure is factor to be tested.
