Scalability of CANoe was limited until CANoe 10.0 to
 1 process running the hardware access, real-time simulation and test
framework (“RT”)
 1 process visualizing all data from the real-time process (“GUI”)
 Processes may be run on two separate PCs (“CANoe RT” mode)

Limitations
 Number of connected hardware channels and/or physical devices
 Performance of large simulations in RT (one CPU core only)
 Performance processing large amount of data in the GUI
 Bandwidth transferring big amount of data from RT to GUI PC

Starting with CANoe 10.0, Multi CANoe systems can be ordered
 Time synchronization between CANoe instances via hardware
synchronization and FDX

 System variable exchange between instances of CANoe

Advantages
 Almost unlimited total channel count
 Scalable CPU power for simulation and analysis
 Log files can be merged due to same time base
 Time synchronization as good as hardware synchronization on one PC

Typical: < 1µs deviation of time stamps
Measured: ~30ns between VN7572 boards used in separate PCs
Requires one CANoe Full or Run license and “slave” licenses for each
additional CANoe instance

 Independent CANoe configurations for each CANoe PC
 Same channel numbering on each CANoe PC
 Multiple CANoe applications must be operated by the user*
Measurement start and stop affects all connected CANoe instances simultaneously
