Account writing refers to an account in which subject may or may not be included. Account writing is
done in order to provide the reader the order in which the things had happened. The first paragraph of
an account writing involves the answers to the questions of 'Where?', 'What?' and 'When?' and an
explanation is followed.
The format of an account writing:
To: Designation/ recipient (The principal or the police)
From: Designation/ full name
Date:
Title/heading: (One-liner)
Introductory paragraph
Paragraph 1
Paragraph 2
Paragraph 3
Concluding paragraph.

2 Lesson ObjectivesWhat is the format of a speech (situational writing)?What should you write in
each paragraph of a speech?
3 Speech formatA speech does not have a rigid structural format akin to the letters and reports. It
does, however, possess a different kind of format that has to be followed.
4 Opening (Part 1 of 3)Start with a "Prime-Time Opening" that captures the attention of your
audience before you begin.One possible way is to pose a question that intrigues them or gets them
interested to your speech. e.g. What really is the purpose of PE lessons in school?
5 Opening (Part 2 of 3)Greet audience (name the VIPs in order first!), include your name and
designation (if any).e.g. Good evening ladies and gentlemen. I am Lee Kun Hee, CEO of
Samsung Electronics......e.g. Good morning Dr Tan, President of the Republic of Singapore, Mdm
Ng, Principal of Greenridge Secondary School, ladies and gentlemen. I am
6 Opening (Part 3 of 3) State your objectives and list them out clearly.
State the duration of your speech and the visual aids used (if any).
7 Body Begin with your objectives in sequence
Ensure the speech flows. Use linking words to aid that.Ensure all your objectives are fully
amplified/elaborated.
8 Ending Re-cap with a quick summary of your objectives.
Remind of your purpose.Provide contacts for clarification about the presentation.s are not
