Today Is… Wednesday 26.04.23 Agenda • Review elements of Dreaming Stories (with example) • Complete a plan for your story • Begin draft Welcome back everyone! DO NOW Think, pair, share: What is one thing you Last Class: achieved last term that Completed storyboards for you are proud of, and one Dreaming story thing you want to achieve Next Class: Complete drafts of Dreaming this term? Story and get feedback Learning Goal: To plan and begin drafting a Dreaming Story that explains how an animal or landform acquired its feature, while also teaching a lesson or conveying a moral to readers. Elements of Dreaming Stories • Starts at the beginning of all life, a very long time ago • Main characters are usually animals or the First People of Australia- Aboriginal people • Uses adjectives and descriptive language • Explains how an animal or land form acquired certain characteristics (how the koala got it’s stumpy tail, how the birds got their colours) • Teaches a lesson or has a moral For example: In the beginning of time, there was a great flood that swept across the land, submerging everything in its path. As the waters rose higher and higher, the animals were forced to seek refuge on high ground, hoping to survive the deluge. One such animal was a small, timid marsupial named Wally, who had been separated from his family during the chaos of the flood. He clung to a tree branch, shivering and afraid, as the waters rose around him. As the floodwaters receded, Wally found himself stranded on a small island, far from the safety of the mainland. He was alone, hungry, and scared, with no hope of escape. For example: In the beginning of time, there was a great flood that swept across the land, submerging everything in its path. At first, he was afraid, but then he saw a strange creature emerge from the shadows. It was a giant bird, with shimmering feathers and a long, curved beak. The bird approached Wally and spoke in a soft, gentle voice. "Do not be afraid, little one," she said. "I have come to help you. I am the Rainbow Lorikeet, and I have the power to transform you into a creature that can thrive on this island.” Wally was amazed and grateful, and he eagerly accepted the Rainbow Lorikeet's offer. She touched him with her beak, and in an instant, he began to change. His body grew larger, his legs grew stronger, and his fur turned into feathers of bright, brilliant colors. He spread his wings and took flight, soaring high above the island and exploring its secrets. And so, Wally became the first Kookaburra, a bird known for its raucous laughter and its love of the land. He lived out his days on the island, thriving in his new form, and became a symbol of hope and transformation for all the animals of Australia.
