vocabulary from transportation, information
technology, and home topics.

on the pictures that they will write about.
Warm-up and Objective Discussion (7-8 min)
Display a picture of "the time machine" on a projector and ask what they guess about it. Talk
about its features, like its color, size, etc. Follow up by asking them if they would like to travel
in time. To the past or to the future? Why or why not?
Tell the students the title of the story, discuss their predictions, and let them know that at the
end of a lesson they will be able to write a summary of this story.
Instruct and Model (10 min)

Project a picture of an old house from the 19th century in the foggy autumn day and a brother
and a sister in the top room of the house with a broken mirror there. Ask them what they think
about these. Then model it by writing some ideas summarizing this part and discussing it with
them. And then put the audio related to that part and stop where it ends while presenting the
story on the board too. Provide them with vocabulary words they can get from the story and
use them while writing. Then let them listen and read the rest of the story.
Guided Practice (15 min)

After they complete the reading, split them into groups of three. Assign groups a task where
they should a new character to the story, who travels to the past. Have them brainstorm
together to find the objects, things that they are going to give information and explanation of
them to the people from the past who don’t know what they are. They can use the vocabulary
they were provided before. As they finish each should present it to the class.
Independent Practice (20 min)


Writing:
Have them write a paragraph as if they are a friend of a boy who travels in time to the past in
the story. They should use new vocabulary they have practiced in the pre-writing activity.
Post-Writing:
Have them present their writing to the class. Then project the rest of the story on the projector
and let them compare their summaries with the real story. Make the students review each
other's summaries and check the use of new vocabulary words they acquired.
Assessment (7-8 min)

Give them a worksheet where they should fill in the gaps with new words related to the story
and determine the correct order of the sentences. After they complete, check their work and
give feedback.
