Our synopsis Introduction The Ulinzi Program (TUP) was found in 2013 by Professional Social Workers (PSWs) from different socioeconomic settings. The Ulinzi Program was registered in 2016 as Coalition for the Safety of Women and Children (COSWAC) Uganda with Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) Nakawa Division NGO Monitoring Committee, and in 2018 with the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB), under the Registrar of Companies, and the Uganda NGO Board. TUP’s major aim is to contribute towards a Society where Children and Families can Survive and Thrive sustainably. The Ulinzi Program works with the government agencies including Ministry of Health (MoH), Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD), Ministry of Children Affairs, Ministry of Education and Sports, comprehensive government programmes such as SAUTI/ChildHelpLine 116 Toll Free, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), the private sector, parents, teachers, religious leaders, health care providers, local leaders, duty bearers and partners, everyone in order to empower the human development perspectives of children, women and families at all times. The immediate program target geographies We work in Kampala, Wakiso, Kayunga, Mukono, Kalangala, Buikwe, Iganga, Masindi, Mubende, Busoga and Karamoja region in the 10 years strategic interventions. Our Vision, Mission and Core goals Our Vision is “a Society where Children and Families can Survive and Thrive”. Our Mission is "To protect the wellbeing of children and families through providing holistic care, advocacy, networking and partnership to enable them live socially and economically productive." Our core goals are to; i. Strengthen Human Rights Protection among children, women and families, and prevent Sexual and Gender Based Violence and its effect on Children, women and families in the target communities. ii. Promote Childhood and Maternal Health in the target communities. iii. Improve Socioeconomic Security for children and families to absorb life circumstances in the target communities. iv. Ensure Systems Strengthening at Organization, Institutional and Community Levels for appropriate responses. “Building a Caring Society. Together” Our Intervention Strategies The organization strives to achieve its goals by employing the following approaches in its community work: i. Social Research for evidence gathering (including problem identification, data collection, report writing and evidence dissemination to stakeholders); ii. Community Outreach and Rescue (through community systems and other role players); iii. Community Mobilization (through local means, house to house visits, forum theatre / MDD, community radios, site visits, IEC materials, social media, and community systems); iv. Awareness and capacity support (through local means, house to house visits, forum theatre / MDD, community radios, site visits, IEC materials, social media, and community systems); v. Counseling and psychosocial support (through forum theatre outreaches, family task forces, tele-counselling and support, Community Resource Persons (CORPs), outreach counselors/social workers, social and community medias, religious leaders and other role players); vi. Advocacy for appropriate responses (Issue identification and analysis, power mapping, lobbying and influencing, networking and alliance building, and social marketing, reports and briefing, exposure visits, conferences and seminars, campaigning and public outreaches). Our Immediate Target Clientele The Ulinzi Program prioritizes;i. ii. iii. All children (eyeing more specifically the most at risk children/the most vulnerable children aged 0-17 years); Young women (18-24 years) and other women everywhere; Families everywhere; In these endeavors, we believe, we cannot deliver on our goals in isolation. So, liaising, networking and collaboration are key principles. We need government, education institutions, non-government agencies, the private sector (through their corporate social responsibility), individuals, well-wishers, everyone. We also trust that through partnerships, we can shape capacities for a Society where children, families will blossom. These relationships are hoped to benefit knowledge sharing, capacity building and innovations for comprehensive interventions.
