Definition of accreditation
◦ It is defined as process of quality assurance that
determines whether an institution meets the
established standards for function structure and
performance.
◦ It is self regulatory process by which governmental
and non-governmental organization grant formal
recognition to programme or institution that meet

◦ An indicator is a statistic that represent a
measure of one character.
◦ Indicators are measurable variables that can be
used to determine the degree of adherence to
standards or level of quality achieved.

accomplishing the goal or institutional objectives
Purpose of accreditation
◦ Is to ensure that minimum standard of quality are
met, most accrediting agencies states they aim
to achieve higher- than minimum standards as
determined by peers in the field.
◦ Is to provide a recognition for funding and
student financial aids

Probationary accreditation: it enables
the nursing institution or organization
applying for accreditation for the first
time for the period of not more than
03 years whilst completing
requirement

◦ Provisional accreditation:
It enables nursing institution or organization
which has been accredited but which
complies with most but not all of the
required standard to operate for a period
not more than one year.

Full accreditation:
It indicates that institution complies with all
required standard and may operate for
the period of five years before applying for
re-accreditation.
Problems and challenges for
accreditation
◦ Quality consciousness at all level will take time
◦ Stances and consistency of efforts will be
required
◦ Commitment on consistent basis.
◦ High rates of attribution will require repeated
and continual training.
