When we use than, we either add er to the end of the adjective (shorter, fatter) or we put
more in the front of the adjective (more handsome). Let’s look at the rule for this:
Use er when an adjective has one syllable.
tall, green, sharp, hard becomes taller, greener, sharper, and harder
Use more when an adjective has three or more syllables
beautiful, fantastic, interesting becomes more beautiful, more fantastic, and more interesting
Use more when an adjective has two syllables
charming, charmed, violent becomes more charming, more charmed, and more violent
EXCEPT
Use er when an adjective has two syllable and ends in Y
hairy, funny, scary becomes hairier, funnier, and scarier
Use the adjectives on top to complete the four boxes with the proper comparative.
