Unit No. 10138 Rev. G PACKER SYSTEMS TECHNICAL UNIT Date: July 29, 2014 Page: 1 of 18 Single String Retrievable Hydraulic / Hydrostatic Set Premier® Cut Release Removable Production Packer, Sizes 9-5/8 x 5-1/2 and 4-1/2" Product Family No. H78463 Introduction Baker Oil Tools’ new large bore packer delivers the advantages of the industry’s best permanent and retrievable packers. The Premier® Removable Production Packer is a new class of “removable” packers for wells that demand the sealing performance of a permanent packer and the flexible workover options of a traditional retrievable packer. The new, hydraulic set Premier Removable Production Packer combines the performance and reliability of the S™ Series Retainer Production Packers with the retrievability of the Reliant Series Packers. The Premier Removable Production Packer is a hydraulic set, large bore retrievable packer. The Premier and its tailpipe assembly are removed from the well on the production tubing by mechanically or chemically cutting the packer mandrel. The Premier Packer comes in two basic configurations: 1) Premium thread, box x pin, or 2) LH Square Thread with sealbore x premium pin. The first configuration allows threading the packer directly to the tubing, while the second configuration provides workover flexibility so the tubing can be disconnected via an anchor type seal assembly from the upper sealbore of the packer. With the appropriate completion design, either configuration can be retrieved on the production tubing using a Baker Atlas chemical cutter. Alternatively, the second configuration can be retrieved on the workstring using a Premier Workstring Retrieving (POWER™) Tool (Product Family No. H78464). With the pressure and force at the packer calculated by TUBEMOVE, consult the attached performance rating envelope to ensure that the plotted coordinate (pressure, force) is inside the envelope. Running Instructions It is suggested that pup joints be made up above and below the packer for handling purposes. Run the appropriate tubing tailpipe and make up the Premier packer to the top of the string. The tailpipe assembly must contain a means to plug the tubing. This may be a Baker seating nipple or a shear-out plug. Run the packer into the well, slowly installing tubing. Premier® Cut Release Removable Production Packer, Size 9-5/8 x 5-1/2 and 4-1/2" Unit No. 10138 Rev. G 07-29-14 Page 3 of 18 Once at setting depth, land the tubing into the wellhead hanger and install the plugging device below the packer. Slowly apply internal pressure to the tubing string, up to the calculated setting pressure. The pressure required to set the packer is shown in the chart below. above the packer. The OD and ID of the cutting zone are based on tubing dimensions. This should help in selecting the proper chemical cutting configuration. The use of a radioactive tag run on the original completion is recommended as a means of locating the cutting zone of the packer. There are two [2] main shearing events which might be observed at surface. The setting sequence will be initiated by the first shear, which will set the debris barrier, followed by the upper slips, and then the packing element system. The final shear sets the lower slips. The pressure for these events is shown below. A Baker Atlas Chemical Cutter should be run on an appropriately designed wireline tool string consisting of weight bars, collar locator, firing sub, upper propellant sub, slip sub, lower propellant sub, chemical cylinder, cutting head and bull plug. The chemical cutter can be run with a collar locator or gamma ray correlation device. It is recommended in this application to run a collar log to tie-in to the bottomhole assembly. Care should be given when running the bottomhole assembly to take accurate length, ID, and OD measurements of the packer, pipe, and crossover connections. One should allow enough space below the desired cutting area for the collar locator or correlation device to pass below the cutting area to ensure accurate depth correlation. The chemical cutter is anchored by a button type slip, which anchors the tool during the cutting operation. Once the cutting operation is completed the slips retract and the cutting tool is free to be pulled from the well. Size -387 -475 and -490 First Shear 1,620 psi Last Shear 2,300 psi Final Setting Pressure 2,800 psi 2,320 psi 3,300 psi 4,000 psi Once the pressure reaches the maximum setting differential, hold it for ten [10] minutes to ensure all components of the packer are fully deployed. Bleed off the tubing and test the packer. Remove the plugging device from the tubing by appropriate means. Retrieving Instructions Equalize the pressure above and below the packer by opening sliding sleeves or cutting holes in the tubing. To retrieve the packer and tailpipe, the packer mandrel must be cut. Two methods of retrieval are available depending on the geometry of the completion: 1) Retrieval on the completion string via a thru-tubing cut, and/ or 2) retrieval on the workstring via a packer cutting/retrieving tool. In either case, once the mandrel is cut, upward movement of the tubing will release and stretch out the slips and rubber element of the packer. The packer should come free with less than 50,000 lb upstrain. NOTE: The tailpipe rating after retrieval is 250,000 lb. Retrieval on Completion String Thru-Tubing, Chemical Cut In non-restrictive ID completions, chemical cutting is the primary method of removing the Premier® Packer. This cutting method is applicable only when the OD of the pre-determined cutting assembly can pass through all the restrictions Once activated, the chemical cutter will cut cleanly through the packer mandrel allowing the packer and tailpipe to be retrieved. In stacked packer applications, all the packers can be retrieved on the production tubing simply by cutting all the packer mandrels. Thru-Tubing, Mechanical Cut In restricted ID type completions, coiled tubing conveyed mechanical cutting allows retrieval of the Premier packer on the completion string. This cutting method must be pre-designed into the original completion as it requires the use of a Thru-Tubing Cutting Extension (TCE). The TCE, placed above the Premier packer, allows the cutting bottomhole assembly to locate and position itself across the cutting zone of the packer. A Baker Oil Tools DB™ Underreamer should be run on an appropriately designed coil tubing tool string consisting of a connector, dual flapper back pressure valve, hydraulic disconnect, dual actuated circulation sub, adjustable no-go locating sub and mud motor. The adjustable no-go locating sub will be spaced out with the DB Underreamer to Unit No. 10138 Rev. G 07-29-14 Page 4 of 18 Premier® Cut Release Removable Production Packer, Size 9-5/8 x 5-1/2 and 4-1/2" place the cut in the required location. Care should be given when running the bottomhole assembly to take accurate length, ID, and OD measurements of the packer, pipe, and crossover connections. One should allow enough space above the desired cutting area for the adjustable no-go locating sub to locate and still provide sufficient distance for the mud motor and the DB™ Underreamer. The adjustable no-go locating sub is the only mechanism required to provide for set-down weight of the coil tubing and accurate location of the DB™ Underreamer and the subsequent cut of the packer mandrel. Once the cutting operation is completed, the cutting knives retract into the DB Underreamer and the entire bottomhole assembly is removed from the well. by the Baker Engineer on site. Continue the cutting process until a positive pressure drop has been observed. This will indicate the cut has been made. Once the mandrel is cut, upward movement of the workstring will release and stretch out the slips and packing element system. The packer should come free with less than 50,000 lb upstrain. In stacked packer applications, additional cuts will be required to sever all the packer mandrels before the packers can be retrieved. See Thru-Tubing Fishing DB Underreamer, Tech Unit No. 4638, in Fishing Services for more information on the DB Underreamer. Retrieval on Workstring This method of retrieval can only be used when the Premier® Packer is run with an alternate upper sealbore. Cut-to-Retrieve Tool To use the workstring conveyed retrieving tool, the anchor type seal assembly must be removed from the upper sealbore of the packer. A Premier Workstring Retrieving (POWER™) tool is run in on an appropriately designed workover string consisting of jars, drill collars, a DB underreamer, and if rotation of the pipe is not possible, a down-hole motor. See chart for proper POWER tool usage. Upon reaching the upper sealbore receptacle, the tool enters the packer bore and is automatically positioned for mechanical cutting. Apply 10,000 lb set-down weight to ensure that the anchor latch positively engages the left-hand thread in the sealbore receptacle. Gradually bring the pump rate up to the flow rate and RPM, which was determined In the event the packer can not be retrieved using standard retrieving procedures, the packer can be milled over and retrieved. Baker “Wilson Type M J-Joint” (Product Family No. H14133) can be used in conjunction with a washover assembly to burn over and retrieve the Premier packer in one trip. Run in the hole with the washover assembly and appropriately sized METAL MUNCHER® Milling Shoe. Mill down to the slips or until the packer moves downhole. Pull out of the hole with the washover assembly and recovered packer. Assembly Instructions Refer to Drawing Nos. 390-890-00P04 and 390-890-00P05. 1.
