Motivating Operations MO are an event (internal or external) which make specific stimuli or behaviors more/less valuable based on the present mood. MO has an affect on the behavior and effect on the value of the reinforcer. MO in the moment change what behaviors we omit because of what is valuable to us in that moment. There are two types of MO- Establishing Operations (EO) and Abolishing Operations (AO) Establishing Operations (EO)- an event which makes specific stimuli or behaviors more valuable based on the present need. It generally increases the value of the reinforcer in the present moment. For example, Nisha haven’t eaten seen anything for last 5 hours and now she is hungry. Based on her present need the value for food is more (Value for food is increased). Abolishing Operations (AO)- an event which makes specific stimuli or behaviors less valuable based on the present need. It generally decreases the value of the reinforcer in the present moment. For example, Nisha has now eaten the food and her stomach is full now, based on her present need the value of food is less as she is full (Value for food is decreased).
