DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE
GRADE 7
CONTENT STANDARD:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of how heat is
transferred. LEARNING COMPETENCY/COMPETENCIES:
Infer the conditions necessary for heat transfer to occur.
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the session, the students are expected to: a.
a. Identify what is heat and temperature
b. Illustrate the three methods of heat transfer
c. Investigate the conditions necessary for heat transfer to take
place
II. SUBJECT MATTER
a. Topic: Heat
b. Reference: https://www.slideshare.net/guest451a35/heat
transferpresentation https://www.simscale.com/docs/simwiki/heat
transfer-thermalanalysis/what-is-heat-transfer/
c. Materials: laptop, printed picture, ice, glass, water.
III. PROCEDURES
a. Putting class in order.
b. Opening Prayer
c. Greetings
d. Checking of Attendance
e. Checking of Assignment
f. Recapitulation
III. PROCEDURES
Teachers’ activity
Students Activity
A. Preparations:
Greetings
“Good morning, Class!”
Prayer
Alright, let us all stand-up for our
prayer. Kindly lead the prayer
Checking of Attendance
“Please say present when your name is
called.” (Teacher calls each student)
Expected answer: “Good
morning, Ma’am”
(Student will pray)
(Everybody says present)
Review of the past lesson
Activity: Pass the cabbage
Instruction: The 'cabbage’ will pass on each table
and the teacher will play some cool music and
the student will pass the cabbage around the
table. When the music stops, the group holding
the cabbage must take off a layer and answer
what is being asked
Motivation
What do you think is the reason why an ice
melt in the glass of water?
Because of warm water
What do you think is the reason why an ice
cream melt in the table?
Because of the heat from the surroundings
Why do we need umbrellas and sunglasses
during sunny day?
What do you think is the common in this
picture?
Because of the heat coming from the sun.
It is heat ma’am.
Okay, very good! Today, we will move on to the
next topic which is the heat. In our today’s
discussion we will emphasize that heat is
continue transferring as long as the temperature
is difference
B. Lesson Proper
Before we are going to our proper discussion
let’s have a short activity first:
• Activity
Now class, let us have a picture puzzle. As you
can see, I have 3 envelopes here. Inside it is the
picture that you are going to form.
I will divide the class into 3 groups. Each group
will have 1 envelope with the picture. I will give
you 5 minutes to do that.
And remember class, you must stay with your Yes ma’am
respective group because after the activity I will
give points to those groups who can answer my
question regarding the presented topic we have
today. Is it okay with you?
Okay, you may now start.
Group 1
Group 2
Group 3
• Analysis
How was the activity class?
Expected answer: Enjoy ma’am!
What did you feel during the activity?
Expected answer: We feel very excited and
its little bit confusing.
What is your observation based on the activity we
perform today?
Expected answer: I think ma’am Those
pictures are related to Heat which is our topic
for today, and it is used to explain the
concepts about how heat transfer.
Okay, can you identify what is heat? Yes,
representative in group 1
Possible answer: For me, heat is a form of
energy that can be transferred from one
object to another.
Very Good. Heat is the transfer of energy from a
one object to another due to a difference in
temperature.
What is the difference between heat and
temperature?
Heat is the transfer of thermal energy,
whereas temperature is the hotness and
coldness of an object.
What do you think is the direction or flow of the heat
energy? Yes, representative in group 3
Possible answer: It always takes from the
substance of higher temperature to the
substance of lower temperature. And it will
continue to move until both substances are at
the same temperature.
Excellent Idea, heat energy will always move from a
warmer substance to a cooler substance. The
greater the difference in temperature between
substances the faster the heat will transfer. This is
because the molecules are vibrating faster and
transfer their energy to the molecules vibrating
slower.
 Abstraction
Now class, there are 3 types of heat transfer.
Can you describe me the picture in the first
group?
Which among the material is a conductor of
heat? (Wooden stick, plastic fork and metal
spoon)
The wooden stick, plastic fork and metal
spoon were put into a hot water.
Expected answer: metal spoon,
Why is the material a conductor of heat?
Because most metals are a good heat
conductor.
Very Good! Conduction is a type of heat transfer
through a direct contact. Part of the spoon is heated
by contact with the hot water. The heat is transferred
through the metal spoon, particle by particle, until
the entire spoon is hot.
What about the second picture?
Boiling water on the kettle
Which water in the kettle will go up? It is hot water
or cold water?
Hot water, because heat is being transferred
from fire to a kettle. The reason why hot water
will evaporate.
Very Good, when you boil a water, it turns hot and
its evaporating. The heat is transferred from fire to a
pot. And this process is called convection.
Where does heat transfer takes place in the
situation?
It is through the fluid movement currents. The
hot water molecules become less dense and
they rise above the denser cooler molecules.
Fantastic, now who can describe me the last
picture?
Melting ice cream as the sun heats the
ground
What causes the ice cream to melt?
I think, ice cream melt through the sun’s heat
and through the warm air.
What about the fourth picture?
It is the sun heat the earth.
Very Good. The third method of heat transfer we have Yes, we are.
the radiation. Radiation is the fastest way of heat
transfer. Due to this ice cream get the heat energy
from the sun which is required to melt ice cream.
Yes, ma’am. The factor or condition that is
necessary for heat transfer to occur is that
two object must have different temperature.
Like what we have discussed earlier that heat
Are we clear about the types of heat transfer?
always flow or move from the hotter object to
the cooler one.
Alright, since we know already the types of heat
transfer did you already understand what is the
condition for heat transfer to occur?
Very Good!
• Application
I want you to look under your table. Each table
indicated the picture that describe the methods of
heat transfer. Now, I want you to identify what is in
the picture and what type of heat transfer is that.
IV. Assessment/ Evaluation
Direction: Write Conduction, convection or Radiation in
the blank space to show the type of heat transfer.
1. ______
Hot water rises and cold-water
sinks
Stir frying vegetables
2. ______
3. ______
A spoon in a cup of hot soup
becomes warmer
4. ______
Grilling hamburger over a
charcoal flame
5. ______
Hot air balloon rises
V. Assignment
Draw a picture/scenario that describe the 3 methods
of heat transfer and put a label on it. Write, it in your
notebook.
