HOW TO USE THE W.P.M. TRACKER
To master something we need to be able to measure it. You are invited to
measure your words per minute (W.P.M.) score each day. This will help you to
document your progress during your Super Reading Quest.
On some days, we will measure your W.P.M. score together during the daily
lesson. You can simply add the score from the daily lessons here. On days
where your reading speed is not measured during the lesson, you can calculate
it afterwards using the following formula.
CALCULATING YOUR BASE RATE
1.
2.
Read for 2 minutes.
Count the number of lines you just read. (Two half lines combined are one
line.)
3.
Divide this number by 2.
________ lines / 2 = ________ are my lines per minute.
4.
Calculate the average number of words per line of your practice book. Stick
to this book throughout the Quest.
1. Count the number of words in 3 lines.
3 lines have ________ words.
2.
5.
Divide this number by 3.
________ lines / 3 = ________ are the average words per line in my practice
book.
Multiply your lines per minute with the average words per line.
________ lines per minute X ________ words per line = ________ is my words
per minute base rate (W.P.M.).
