‘Eid Prayer 2005 November 4, 2005 Imam W. Deen Mohammed Chicago Park Hotel Hazel Crest, IL Eid sayyid Mubarak. This is the blessed day, twice, for us, the ‘Eid and the Jumah Day and the Prophet said the Jumah Day is the best day. He included the ‘Eid al-Fitr and we celebrate with prayers to our Lord and then preaching. The brighter ‘Eid is the one that commemorates the sacrifice of Abraham and we celebrate it on the 10th day of the month of Hajj. We observe it by sharing with the poor and suffering. We have two Eids and they are alike in that respect. And they are both to awaken in us our consciousness for G_d and then for our brothers and sisters, our friends, our neighbors, and then our community and our hearts go out to all people on this planet earth. The celebration of a victory The Eid ul-Fitr is also to be understood as the celebration of a victory, the victory of something that Allah created every human being with his original nature. It is called fitr, that original nature upon which Allah caused all people to be raised up upon. He raised the human being upon that fitr. How are we to see our fasting? As increase and more progress for personal decency, for truthful thinking, for actions, fairness, feelings for self, for family and for others, feelings for the orphans; also, for the widows, for the poor, for the sick, for the victims of storms, of earthquakes, for those who suffer sad, mournful misfortunes. What if the orphan child is a whole community? What if the orphan child is a whole community? Allah says, “And spend on the orphans”. I repeat, what if the orphan child is a whole community where moral life is buried, walked upon, spat upon, where business life and moral life cry out like an infant, crawling around on its hands and needs its mother? But where is the mother? A whole community is an orphan, and no help is reaching that orphan. 1 Allah says He will test us by trials that separate men from the boys. Allah permitted Muhammed to lead his community in prayer facing Jerusalem and then He said turn away from your first Qibla and Allah said, “I will turn you to a qiblah that will please you”. He became dissatisfied increasingly with the Qibla and Allah revealed to him and said “turn yourself now towards a qibla that will please you”. And Allah says do you think you will not be tested? The first qibla that you turned to was there to test those among you who will remain faithful, who would turn back on their heels to social indecency, turn back on your heels to selfidolization, self-worship, following your own passions and thinking, to test those who will be steadfast, or who will turned around on his heels. Heels mean social balance, etc.; “on your heels” means social balance. The test comes over and over again to the people of earth That test comes over and over again to the people of earth. Jews and Christians are tested and they will lose their way to self-interest, greed, jealousy, etc. You will be tested by floods of partying, etc., by riches, poverty, to see if you will envy the rich and go astray; tested to see if you can stand poverty and not go astray. In this time of sexual perversion, you will be tested by sexual lust to see who will stay home with his wife and children, who will stay with the community and who will not. Islam is a religion of truth, of reality, and Allah says, “Now the truth has come, and falsehood is doomed to perish”. Allah has revealed this to us and given us light and insight. Second Part of the Khutbah A path that leads to G_d As-Salaam Alaikum. Eid Sayyid Mubarak! We ask Allah to not let our hearts deviate and go back to that bad life that He has called us away from, in an environment that was trouble for our souls, for our moral nature, and we did not have the clear path to the path G_d. “Whoever has gone out on a path to knowledge has entered on a path that leads to G_d, so says Muhammed, the Prophet. The path to human excellence is the path to G_d If you understand the Qur'an, Allah says you will suffer setback followed by setback, but He said struggling to see the light clearly will take you to the destination. And he said, “Whoever has found himself has also found his Lord”, meaning the path to human excellence is the Path to G_d. When we arrive there, we have come to where He wants us 2 and He says, “You will meet with Me”. We will meet with G_d. In our human excellence we come to know G_d as He is; we come to know the Word of G_d as it is and there we will come to know Him as He is and how we are to live on this earth under G_d…Ameen! ‘Eid sayyid mubarak! 3
