Who is the audience and what are their characteristics? A2. The audience will be close friends and family of the person who passed away. Why has the audience come to hear the speech? A3. It is a farewell tribute to the person who died. What are the interests of the audience? A4. The purpose of the speech is to recall the defining qualities and highlights of a life lived in a way that benefits the audience, particularly the family, and It should capture the essence of the life lived. What does the audience know about your topic? A5. They all dealt with the person on different levels; some are family members, who lived with him, some are co-workers, business associates, some went to school with him, some are personal friends, etc. What is the audience’s point of view on the topic? A6. A7. Everyone will have their own personal point of view because they dealt with him on different levels. Still, most people want to hear overview of the person’s life, key milestones, and positive accomplishments of the person who died. How will the audience likely react to your speech? That depends on how each person feels during the service; there will be close family members, like wife, children, brothers, sisters, etc. might cry due to heavy grief, and most other people will have a somber feeling. Depending on the points mentioned during the speech, they might laugh if I talked about some funny incidents while primarily somber. Purpose What do you want your audience to know? P1. I want the audience to remember my friend’s defining qualities, the highlights of the life he lived, and how the family, friends, etc., all benefited from the way he lived his life and what each of us takes away from his values. What do you want your audience to think? P2. I want the audience to think of him positively and remember his achievements and contributions to each of us individually. What do you want your audience to feel? P3. I want the audience to feel that his life was worth living and meant something to this world and all of us. What do you want your audience to do? P4. I want the audience to listen to the speech, appreciate some of the qualities they did not know about him, and positively remember him as I have known him. Thesis What is the most important message of your speech? T1. To recall the defining qualities and highlights of a life lived in a way that benefited many close friends and family and once not so close. Why should/will your audience care about your message? T2. Because he was a husband, a father, a brother, a good friend, a co-worker and a good person we knew and now we lost him and can only remember his legacies’. Reflection Are your audience, purpose and thesis aligned? Why or why not? R1. I believe my audience, purpose, and thesis are appropriately aligned because we all are gathered to say our last goodbye at this funeral/farewell event. We all want to remember my friend's good deeds and contributions to our lives. What did you learn from this experience? R2. Well, I can say that writing a eulogy is not very difficult because the main things are facts that we know and remember about that person. In the speech, we try to look at his life positively. However, delivering the speech can be difficult because emotions are involved when remembering some of the good memories at times might be overcome with emotions and might have difficulty speaking during the speech.
