Green and blue lines will be drawn in their journals, representing ones and tens. They will then write numbers (1 till 20) on these lines to understand the concept of place value. Skills used: Thinking skills- (Critical thinking) Activity 1: Scavenger Hunt (Quantity Association) (15- 20 min) (instructions shared in ppt in Homework section) Students will play a scavenger hunt. They will find the objects and associate the objects to the numbers written by them in their journals. Followed by the task given below: Tuesday Arrange them in ascending order. Write the biggest number of all. Write any one odd number. Students will explore the relationship between ones, tens by creating their own bars of tens. Question to provoke students: Friday Why do we need place value mat? How do use place value mat? What does ones and tens represent? Example: “I have 14 beans? How can I show 14 on place value mat?” Write 1 in the tens column and a 4 in the ones column. Reinforce the concept by pointing to each numeral and saying, “This means I have one ten and four ones - 14. ” Each bean is a “one,” so 10 beans together is a “ten.” Class activity: Students to practice some numbers with teachers. Std- Practice writing numbers from 30 to 50 under correct hierarchy. Challenge (high order)- to write number up to 70.
