Habitat Distribution of Rhododendron kesangiae in Bhutan Introduction Floral diversity of Ericaceae family forms the key component of the montane ecosystem as they serve as the habitat for wildlife and aids in conservation of water. Particularly, in Bhutanese society, Rhododendrons have ethno -botanical value and are widely used in offerings, medicines, incense and religious products. Out of 144 floral species recognized as endemic to Bhutan, 4 Rhododendron species have been recorded until now including Rhododendron kesangiae. And it is called Tala in Dzongkha. It falls under genus Rhododendron of Ericaceae family. It is a large shrub or tree that typically grows upto 15 m Criteria LULC: Shrubs and Forests Elevation: 2890-3450 masl Aspect: Southeast Annual Mean Temperature: 12.1℃-22.1℃ Annual Mean Rainfall: 490.1 mm - 155.7 mm Result Problem Statement Rhododendron kesangiae as one of the only four Rhododendron species endemic to Bhutan, people should be aware of it before becoming threatened due to anthropogenic pressures. However, not many studies have been conducted on it thereby, creating research gap. Moreover, there aren’t many scientific guides published to enhance future research scope and to encourage plant enthusiasts for exploration and discovery. Methodology Figure 1: Map of Habitat Distribution GIS mapping of the habitat distribution of Rhododendron kesangiae resulted in total area coverage of 6,125.07 km². The suitable areas were condensed in temperate zone. And some other probable areas for it’s distribution were also indicated besides the areas already recorded for it’s growth.
