Natural resources are fossil fuels, minerals, animals, wind, water, sunlight, soil, natural resources are made by the earth. There are two types of natural resources, one is renewable and the other is non-renewable resources. Renewable resources are resources that can be replenished on its own and can be renewed fast. Due to this, we can’t run out of it since it renews so fast. Non-renewable resources are also renewable but take millions of years to be replenished and can run out based on the amount being used and the time it takes to be made by the earth. There are many uses of natural resources like fossil fuels which are used by cars and the sun’s radiation which is used for electricity to power homes and many other places. In addition to the sun’s radiation, there is also wind which powers wind turbines to create electricity for homes and other objects that need electricity. NYC should stay dependent on fossil fuels. There are always pros and cons to every decision and picking fossil fuels has a con of ruining the environment and having the chance of running out, however they are relatively inexpensive to extract rather than the alternate energy resources. For example, “fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and gas are abundant in Australia so this means they are relatively cheap fuel and readily available”, The best option for NYC would be to stick with non-renewable resources because non-renewable technology is what people are used to and is easier to use for everyone. Natural gas is the best type of fossil fuel to use in NYC because it’s used for lots of things like heating, cooking electricity generation and also used for plastics, and vehicles those are main functions of NYC. Many people still think that NYC should move onto alternate energy resources. Renewable energy resources are better for the environment and would never run out, but the renewable resources depend too much on the weather. If it’s cloudy then the solar panels wouldn’t work or even if there isn’t any wind, the wind turbines wouldn’t be able to create electricity to power the homes and other objects. For example, “generating electricity from renewable energy, improved public health and environmental quality”. There was one fact that changed my whole perspective on renewable energy and how they conducted energy. The fact was that the weather controls everything about the renewable energy sources and the amount of energy the renewable machines make. If the weather is perfect, then the renewable machines wouldn’t be making enough energy to be used by the people. New York City should in fact continue to depend on fossil fuels since alternate energy resources are not advanced enough. Deciding fossil fuel or renewable energy resource is important because New York City is using a lot of fossil fuels and fossil fuels are going to run out someday. We must decide on what New York City should do to use less fossil fuels so they don’t run out fast. They have to find a more efficient way to use fossil fuels in the future. NYC can cut back on their uses of fossil fuels and start caring about the environment by planting more plants and advancing the use of renewable energy since that might be our only choice in the future.
