Humans Cause Climate Change Cedrick C. Guasch 10 – Barba English 10 Mrs.Aguilar 14 April 2023 Humans Cause Climate Change In the 21st century, humanity faces a significant challenge of climate change. Scientific evidence indicates that humans are causing the earth's climate to change. The primary reason for climate change is the accumulation of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane in the atmosphere, which leads to warming the planet by trapping heat. These gases are released into the atmosphere due to human activities such as deforestation and burning fossil fuels. In this essay, I will contend that climate change is human-caused, and there is a pressing need to take immediate action to reduce its impacts. The overwhelming evidence suggests that humans are responsible for climate change. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a global organization composed of hundreds of scientists, has concluded that humans are the primary drivers of climate change. (European commission, 2017). Most Americans recognize climate change, but some are still unsure about its causes. Ilissa Ocko reported that more than a hundred nations have aggregate an overwhelming evidence pointing to a clear conclusion that Humans are the main cause of climate change. We're the ones who burn fossil fuels, produce livestock and clear trees, increasing the amount of heat-trapping gases in the atmosphere. (Ilissa Ocko, n.d.). The evidence from scientific studies strongly indicates that human actions are the leading cause of climate change. The IPCC, comprising scientists from various countries, has determined that it is highly probable that human activities have been the main contributor to the observed global warming since the mid-1900s. This evidence includes the warming of the earth, rising sea levels, melting of ice sheets and glaciers, and changes in precipitation patterns and occurrences of severe weather events. (Ilissa Ocko n.d.). According to Hausfather (2017), climate change is believed to be caused by various factors that impact the amount of energy that enters and remains in the Earth's climate, known as "radiative forcings." These forcings include greenhouse gases, which trap outgoing heat, aerosols from human activities and volcanic eruptions that influence cloud formation and reflect incoming sunlight, changes in solar output, changes in the Earth's surface reflectivity due to land use, and other factors. (para 3). Human actions are enhancing Earth's natural greenhouse effect by putting more greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The majority of climate scientists concur that the 1.8°F (1.0°C) rise in the global average temperature since the late nineteenth century is primarily due to this rise in heat-trapping gases. Human activity is the primary source of the heat-trapping gases carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone, and different chlorofluorocarbons. Scientists are most concerned about carbon dioxide because it influences global warming more than any other gases combined. (David Herring, 2020). Most disasters can be predicted through temperature and precipitation. Higher temperature is usually linked to more disasters caused by droughts, wildfires, heat waves, tropical cyclones, and other storms. According to the theory of humancaused climate change, the warming of the earth's surface can be contributed by carbon dioxide (CO2) and other gases that trap heat in the atmosphere, such as water vapor and methane. The theory also suggests that human activities, primarily the use of coal, oil, and natural gas, have increased the concentration of CO2 and similar gases in the atmosphere since the industrial revolution in the mid to late 19th century. This increase in concentration, as per the theory, will cause global warming or an increase in global average surface temperatures. (BallotPedia n.d.). Climate change has become a global concern over the last few decades. These include volcanic eruption, solar radiation, tectonic plate movement, orbital variations. Due to these activities, the condition of an area become harmful for life to survive. Many plant and animal species go extinct due to human activity. Human activities that harm the climate include deforestation, using fossil fuel, a different type of pollution and many more. In today's world, climate change is a crucial matter that demands immediate attention and action from everyone. To promote the use of renewable energy sources, individuals can opt for various options such as setting up solar panels on their rooftops, purchasing certificates for renewable energy, or investing in companies that produce renewable energy. It is essential to encourage the adoption of renewable energy to address the issue of climate change. References E.C (2021, July 14).
