The family consists of Naeem, who is 12 years old, his mother and father, who are in their 30s, his younger brother and sister, who are 8 and 3, and his grandmother, who is 65. The grandmother has back pain and has to sleep in a special bed. Mr Naidoo has a job as a store man, but his salary is not enough to afford a car so he travels to work by mini-taxi and the two elder children walk to school.
