Module 1 - Overview Learning Outcomes: LO1 Discuss the objectives of human resource management. The central challenge for organizations today is to survive and prosper in a competitive environment. Most organizations seek to maintain high productivity and effectiveness while creating a global presence. Strategic management of organizations is essential for coping in this market. Human resource management aims to maximize the contribution of a workforce to the organization’s factors. These goals may be categorized into economic, social, and environmental goals. Assisting employees to achieve personal goals enhances their work. The field of human resource management (HRM) emphasizes the functions performed managers and human resource professionals LO2 Identify Steps in Strategic Management of Human Resources LO3 Explain how human resource departments are organized and how they function. While HRM is the responsibility of every manager, the human resources department provides services to other departments in the organization. The performance and well-being of each worker is the dual responsibility of their worker’s immediate supervisor and the human resource department. LO4 Discuss the role of human resource professionals in today’s organization. The human resource management profession has undergone rapid changes in recent years. In most provinces, an accreditation process now exists that ensures all HR professionals possess minimum standards of expertise. Even this may elevate the status of the profession overall, the value of the HR department within an organization, will be determined by its contribution to an organization’s overall success.
