Carrying Out a Measurement
Explained below is how to:
− set up a measurement,
− create a correction curve,
− and then to measure a sample.

Step
1. Make sure that all
system components
are correctly
connected.

thermostat at least
two hours before
starting the

4. Prepare the sample.

5. Determine the
sample length at
room temperature.

6. Loosen the
retaining nut on the
protective tube.
7. Slide the retaining
nut and O-ring over
the protective tube
and leave them
there.
8. Slide the furnace to
the right to the limit
stop.
9. If necessary, place
sample supports in
the sample holder.

10. Place the standard
sample (e.g. Al2O3
sample) on the
sample supports.
11. Slide the pushrod
over to the sample.
Adjust the pushrod.
12. Position the
thermocouple.
The thermocouple
must not come into
contact with the
sample.

13. Slide the furnace
carefully to the left
to the limit stop.
The sample holder
must not come into
contact with the
protective tube.
14. Close the
dilatometer with the
retaining nut.

15. Set the required
atmosphere for the
sample chamber.
