Why is this
Important?
Being able to write a structured paragraph is not
only important in social science (Geography) but
it is important in all academic subjects. Learning
how to write a PEEL paragraph will help you in
your future studies.
Even in the work place you will need to be able
to make an argument and back it up with
evidence. Good writing skills will help you in the
work place no matter what career you choose.

How to Answer Long Response Questions
How to answer a question?
• When we answer we need to have a clear structure to get full
marks.
• It helps the reader understand what we are saying and keeps us
on task as we write.
• A PEEL paragraph is a great way of explaining your ideas and
knowledge in answer to any question. It gives you a structure to
follow to help you write the perfect analytical paragraph. Remember
PEEL. Point, Evidence, Explanation, Link.
P (Point)
E (Evidence)
This is where your main idea (or topic
sentence) goes. It should be no longer than
one sentence which can be easily
understood by the reader.
Here you give more detail to support your
topic sentence. You need to add the proof
that your argument is valid. This could be
statistics or a quote from a source (text).
E (Explanation)
This is where you explain your evidence in
your own words. This part is your opinion
on why you are arguing your point.
L (Link)
This is where you tie your quote back to the
point by explaining how it fits with your
topic sentence. Like your point, it should be
simple and easy to understand. One or two
sentences maximum.
Later you will learn how to join PEEL paragraphs together to write an
essay!

Rivers such as the Danube river, the Rhine and the Volga
river are important landforms in Europe since they

major rivers in Europe, you will find crops growing from
grapes and potatoes to wheat. Rivers since the beginning
of time have been home to civilizations as they provide
the perfect land for agriculture. The land near rivers is
flat, it is nutritious and there is easy access to water from
the river. As fertile agricultural land rivers are important
landforms for Europeans.

Explain why rivers are an important
landform in Europe
Rivers are an important landform in Europe since they provide
important renewable hydroelectric power. Many dams have
been built on European rivers to facilitate hydroelectric power
generation on rivers such as the Volga, the Danube and the
Rhine river. Hydropower accounts for 10% of Europe’s
electricity according to the European Commission. The
generation of renewable clear energy is extremely important
for Europe, to ensure that Europe reduces its carbon emissions
and is able to have enough energy for all of its citizens to live a
comfortable life. Without these vital rivers, Europe would not
be able to produce so much green energy for its people thus
rivers are important for humans to have energy.
