Name: Jezzelle Ann G. Javier Subject: Cluster 1: The Child and Adolescent Learners and Learning Principles Professor: Dr. Minerva Luna Module 1 HUMAN DEVELOPMENT: MEANING, CONCEPTS, APPROACHES Reflection Human development is about the real freedom that ordinary people have to choose who they are, what they do, and how they live. It is a continuous process of mental, physical, intellectual, and emotional development. This process begins in infancy and continues through childhood, adolescence, and maturity. For me, the reasons for studying human development are to gain a better understanding of your own life experience, to help others understand what they're going through, to better understand the relationship between society and individual growth, to lead more effectively, and to support others' physical and mental health. This lesson taught me that human development is a pattern of movement that begins at conception and continues throughout a healthy person's life. Human development can be either positive or harmful and it includes growth and decline. Growth is concerned with quantitative changes, whereas development is concerned with qualitative changes. Development follows a proximodistal pattern, which deals with the development from inward to upward. Another pattern is the cephalocaudal pattern which the development is from head to toe and from top to bottom. The human development has two (2) different approaches. It includes the traditional and life-span approaches. The life-span of a human development occurs throughout the life-span of an individual. Until death, development never ceases. Traditional human development occurs with considerable change from birth to adolescence, little or no change in adulthood, and decline in late old age. Overall, the knowledge I gained from this module will help me better understand why human being do the things they do and how I can help them do things better. I have developed and broaden my knowledge about the meaning, concepts and approaches of a human development. This module asserts more knowledge on the development of a human. I will also continue studying, learning and applying ways in which my future student’s develop ways in which I can nurture their development to help them become free and responsible thinkers.
