Cambridge Global English is an innovative suite of materials created for
young English as a Second language learners.
Cambridge Global English Stages 1–6 completes the series and is
based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
(CEFR), the internationally recognised standard for language
development.
To meet the challenges of the future, children need to develop both
conversational and academic English from the earliest level. Cambridge
Global English addresses these needs and focuses on developing
listening, speaking, reading and writing skills which learners will need to
be successful.
Cambridge Global English (7-8) is a lower secondary course following
the Cambridge Secondary English as a Second Language Curriculum
Framework developed by Cambridge English Language Assessment.
The course is also aligned with the Common European Framework of
Reference. The topics and situations in Cambridge Global English have
been selected to reflect the diversity and encourage learning about
each other’s lives through the medium of English. It presents realistic
listening, speaking, reading and writing tasks, as well as end of unit
projects similar to those students might encounter in the context of a
first language school. After every other unit, there is a literature spread,
featuring authentic prose, poetry, plays and songs from a variety of
sources.
Spanning 8 stages, Stages 1–6 are tailored specifically for Primary
levels and provide a seamless transition to Cambridge Global English
Stages 7 and 8 at Secondary level.

Penpals for handwriting Second Edition
Penpals for Handwriting Second Edition, is a new revised series of
resources following up on the internationally best-selling series
of Penpals first Editions.
ENGLISh
Handwriting is a key literacy skill that needs to be taught actively
through frequent, discrete lessons. The Penpals scheme will
help you to do this with DVD-ROMs for whole-class sessions,
pupil practice books and write-in workbooks with GPS contexts.
Comprehensive and easy-to-use teacher's books support you
with unit-by-unit lesson plans, clear links to the corresponding
practice books and workbooks with suggestions for group and
independent work and guidance on common errors and what to
do about them.
The Penpals philosophy is that developing the necessary fine and
gross motor skills in readiness for handwriting is vital to setting
children on the right path – and that warming up for handwriting
is equally important for older children. That’s why each interactive
DVD-ROM in the series comes complete with Penpals Gym – a
series of age appropriate fine and gross motor skill exercises to
start lessons off.
And because we think learning to write should be fun, we’ve
developed a range of classroom posters and a wall frieze to bring
colour to the classroom along with pen licence certificates and
business cards to celebrate handwriting achievements.

Augmented Reality
This product is a premium device agnostic solution which leverages the traditional and the technological domains to stimulate an age-appropriate
learning experience. The flash cards and the books help the facilitator in creating an enriching learning experience which is further enhanced with
the new age Augmented Reality app. The approach used in developing this product gives learners the opportunity to learn and explore their world
independently. The correct identification of images using the AR device (mobile or Tablet) will lead the learner to a life-like 3-D animation. Efforts
have been made to make this acquisition process intuitive, incidental and yet memorable. Technology-aided learning has become the chalk and
board of new-age learning. Selected words are brought to life with the help of an innovative and novel technology.
ENGLISh
Through this series, the facilitator creates a fun environment with the help of immersive 3-D experience; the learners acquire and retain vocabulary
at their own pace, using visual and auditory cues. Words will not just be learnt or memorised but seen, heard, and experienced. A 'dinosaur' is not
a scary creature but a rather intriguing one as is an 'iguana'. It is important to introduce the learner to things not commonly seen and stimulate
their thinking. These words and the resulting associations help build vocabulary and syntax for the learner. This process is incremental, building and
adding to what has already been learnt. As the learners experience and exposure widens need for newer words increases. Each stage of learning
has to be gratifying and challenging. Vocabulary acquisition is one of the key requirements in the language development of the learner. The
challenge however is how to make words form an imprint in the learner's mind. It is not enough to know what a word means; learner also needs
to know how to use the word. Words learnt in isolation remain isolated. Words learnt in association with other words enhance active vocabulary.
Each of the books in this series will allow the learner to explore, engage, and enjoy. Each page will fire the eagerness and kindle their
natural curiosity.

Cambridge Reading adventures
Cambridge Reading adventures is a brandnew and groundbreaking international
Primary reading scheme.
ENGLISh
Cambridge University Press has collaborated with the UCL
Institute of Education (IOE), world leaders in Primary reading, to
create a Primary guided reading scheme for young readers from
all international backgrounds.
Cambridge Reading Adventures consists of 90 books and two Teaching
and Assessment Guides. The books have been meticulously levelled
into 11 Book Bands which take a child from being a wholly new
reader (whatever their language background) to being fluent and
independent readers able to engage with the wider curriculum from
Grade 3 onwards.
The readers are both fiction and non-fiction, covering a wide range
of subjects – with stories set in an international school, traditional
and animal tales, stories in a contemporary or historic setting,
nonfiction reports and explanations, all with a deliberately international
flavour which pupils all around the world can relate to.
• Internationally relevant content which ties in with international
curricula (IPC, PYP and Cambridge).
• Top quality writing, illustration and design from outstanding
authors, illustrators and photographers from around the world.
• Impeccable and rigorous pedagogy from the International
Literacy Centre at the IOE.
• A highly effective guided reading management and assessment
programme, through texts benchmarked to Book Bands and
supporting resources, which can be supplemented by the
school’s own readers.

The UCL Institute of Education’s International Literacy Centre (ILC) promotes
literacy education from age 3 to 13 (Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 3).
The ILC has successfully trained many hundreds of teachers to provide effective
literacy teaching through a range of interventions and classroom approaches.
As well as providing high-quality professional support for teachers and teacher
educators, the ILC develops materials and approaches to support teachers of
literacy. One of these is Book Banding for guided reading, the definitive system
for banding of books to support early Primary reading. Most recently, Book
Banding was published in Which Book and Why? Using Book Bands and book
levels for guided reading in Key Stage 1 (Bodman and Franklin, 2014). Sue
Bodman and Glen Franklin, National Leaders for the ILC, are the Series Editors
of Cambridge Reading Adventures.

At Red band, the sense of story begins to be developed. Illustrations
remain supportive but the text demands close visual attention to
print detail.
Sentence structures become more complex and less repetitive and
the reader is supported to look by providing changes in order of
words within a repeated structure.
Nonfiction texts reinforce familiar language patterns through
themes appropriate to the interests and understanding of young
children. There are nine readers covering both fiction and nonfiction.
The texts are slightly longer than at Pink, so that children can
begin to extend their high-frequency word knowledge. There is
more variation in page design, with nonfiction books introducing
features like labelled diagrams and contents pages.

MAKING A CAR
Blue band stories are a little more complex, often with several
characters and episodes within one story to support the development
of comprehension skills.
The greater variation in sentence patterns supports meaning and
helps the children to crosscheck and selfcorrect independently.
Nonfiction texts become more varied in content and subject, and
the choice of vocabulary becomes more technically specific. Less
commonly used words are well supported by illustrations, giving
good opportunities to build word reading power and knowledge of
spelling patterns in English.

The nine Yellow band readers develop longer story plots to support
developing inferential skills. Texts include longer sentences, greater
range of sentence structures and a wider range of vocabulary.
Illustrations begin to offer less direct support as the word reading skills
of the young reader facilitate accurate decoding of simple phonically
regular words. Repetition is now used as a dramatic device rather
than a support for building highfrequency vocabulary knowledge.
Nonfiction texts relate to young children’s interests and experiences,
with a range of genres, text layouts and devices to support meaning.
Vivian French
Alan Rogers
95/e-ach
In fiction texts at Green band, the longer sentence structures make
the use of punctuation a focus in order to get the precise message.
Stories usually have several characters and story events are more
developed, often lasting several pages. The inclusion of longer, more
complex words requires pupils to apply word solving skills flexibly.
Across Green band, readers can experience a wider range of nonfiction genres than at previous bands.
Whilst topic specific vocabulary is used, there is moderate support
from the illustrations and novel words are often repeated.

Descriptions of places and people begin to be extended at
Turquoise band, offering challenges to reading with phrasing
and expression when reading literary phrases and expressions.
Vocabulary in both fiction and non-fiction texts is often less
common and requires the reader to use their knowledge of
spelling patterns.
Maps, charts and diagrams begin to be used in non-fiction texts at
this band. There are opportunities to learn to navigate information
presented alphabetically in glossaries and indexes.

In fiction texts at Orange band, illustrations offer support for just
one aspect of the story meaning for that page.
More space is given over to text on a page. A high percentage of
high-frequency words are now established, encouraging fluent
reading and developing understanding.
At non-fiction, ways of presenting information are expanded to
include simple tables and charts. A wider range of genres includes
explanatory texts and mixed genre.
Giorgio Bacchin
At Purple band, storylines often reflect character and/or author
viewpoint. This results in more rounded characters, offering
opportunities to discuss character motivation and response.
Story language is developed at Purple band, with many occurrences
of the turns of phrase of traditional tales and storytelling: ‘Long,
long ago’, ‘Once upon a time’, for example. There are some simple
chapter books at this band.
Non-fiction texts offer more indepth information and more
technical vocabulary than at previous bands.

Readers at Gold band are nearly ready for ‘conventional’ reading.
Texts are now longer to match the growing ‘reading stamina’ of the
young reader. Chapter books build tension, giving the opportunity
for more sustained reading and more complex storylines. Texts are
illustrated, but now offer general support for the storyline.
Language structures become more complex, with two and
threeclause sentences appearing occasionally. Readers are now
familiar with the layout and features of nonfiction texts, giving
teachers opportunity to ensure children can hunt and locate
information and answer questions posed.
At White band, texts match children’s growing maturity as readers.
Stories showing strong cause and effect provide opportunities to
explore ‘why’ when responding to texts.
Sentences of several clauses show a wide range of conjunctions.
Potentially tricky elisions like ‘we’re’ and ‘they’re’ are used at White
band, requiring fast, efficient use of print information.
Non-fiction topics are broader, focusing on a particular aspect.
They may employ different genre styles across one text, and a
range of nonfiction text features.

What is the Great Migration?
There is a place in Tanzania, in Africa, which is so big that people call it
the Serengeti. This means ‘the land that goes on for ever’. More than two
million animals live here.
The Great Migration is when all these
animals go on the move. It is the largest
migration of land animals on Earth and
it happens every year.

Written by leading subject specialists and supported by international research, Teaching Probability is designed to support
teaching concepts in probability by providing a new approach to this difficult subject from a perspective not limited by a
syllabus, giving teachers both theoretical and practical knowledge of innovative ways of teaching probability.
This alternative approach to teaching probability focuses on the methods that teachers can apply to help their students
engage with the topic using experiments and mathematical models to solve problems, considering how to overcome
common misconceptions and the way in which probability can be communicated.
