Picture Analysis
• There are different ways to communicate. One way is by using our
visual ability to understand things. We can make use of a picture to
gain an idea and reflect on its meaning. Another way is by looking
at each part of the image which gives us clues as to the meaning of
the whole picture.
• Learning the Skill: Analyzing the image to form a new meaning.

Safety Procedures in the Kitchen
Yes! Cooking is fun yet at the same time kitchen
safety necessary. There are extremely dangerous
hazards and tools and equipment that can be found
inside the kitchen premises. Some sharp objects like
knives, open fire by the oven, electrical appliances,
and even bacteria are some of the examples. Always
pay attention to what you’re doing in the kitchen to
prevent serious injuries or accidents. It is a good habit
to develop and observe basic rules of kitchen
awareness and safety.
Kitchen
awareness means being
concern with the
ways to prevent
probable hazards
in the kitchen.
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) was
formulated in 1978 by Bureau of Working
Conditions in compliance with the constitutional
mandate to safeguard the worker’s social and
economic well-being, as well as his physical safety
and health. Accidents can be avoided by being
aware of the different hazards and risks.
TYPES OF HAZARDS
Safety Hazards: injuries due
to unsafe work practices, this
can cause immediate
accidents. Examples are
equipment with hot surfaces
and slippery floors.
Biological Hazards: Caused by
different cross contamination
brought by microorganisms like
viruses, bacteria, fungi parasites
and even pests that make you
sick.
Chemical Hazards: Solid, liquid,
vapour or gaseous substances, dust,
fume or mist that can harm your
body. Example can be cleaning the
kitchen using pesticides.
Ergonomic Hazards: includes
physiological and psychological
demands on the worker,
vibration, extreme
temperatures, such as
repetitive and forceful
movements and awkward
postures arising from improper
work methods and improperly
designed workstations, tools,
and equipment
Physical Hazards:
Examples are noise,
vibration, energy,
weather, electric shock,
radiation and pressure
According to Government of Canada, 2020:
• Hazards define as the source of potential damage,
harm or adverse effects on someone
• Risk means the chance or probability that a person
will be harmed or experience an adverse health
effect caused by a hazard. It may also apply to
situations with property or equipment loss or harmful
effects to the environment.
HAZARD
CAUSE
RISK
EFFECT
Risk assessment defines as a thorough look at your
workplace to identify those things, situations, processes,
etc. that may cause harm, particularly to people.
Risk assessment is the process where you:
Step 1: Identify hazards;
Step 2: analyze or evaluate the risk associated with
that hazard; and
Step 3: determine appropriate ways to eliminate or
control the hazard.
Risk assessment
The following are some specific ways to keep the
kitchen area free from hazards and accidents
