SSEH2290 LESSON PLAN Lesson Aims/Objectives: Aim: Sports, cardio and muscular conditioning Venue: Outside, SSEH oval Motivation: Play Goals: Improve/maintain fundamental movement skills and encourage participation in sporting activities. Target Audience: Children aged 8-10, active kids Equipment: Cones 4x Netballs ~6x Tennis balls 10x Hoops 8x small Hurdles 35x Bean bags TIME CONTENT/ACTIVITIES WARM UP Chain tag: One person is designated as the tagger. The tagger them aim’s to tag as many people as possible. Once tagged the children must link up with the tagger creating a long line. The game is over once all children have been tagged. 5 mins Knee Slapping: In pairs, try and tag the other person’s knee. Once warm-up is finished, 2 different leaders will go to allocated stations. The kids will be allocated a number 1 or 2 and go to their respective areas 1 min *Water Break ORGANISATION ACTIVITY ONE 4 mins on each station + 1 min explanation & movement to next station Participant with ball Station one: Catching/throwing X Pass Ball: Group splits up into two teams. Each team gets into a X zig-zag formation. The ball then passes down the line to X opposing person. Once the ball is passed the participant must run to the end of the line. Participants must stand X arms distance apart. The first team to the finishing cone wins. X * To modify activity a tennis ball can be used to make X the activity harder X Note: If there is an injured participant we can adapt the game accordingly (eg; use a tennis ball for non-injured arm throwing). If that cannot be achieved we will pull them aside and work on appropriate skills individually. Station 2: Catching/Passing Under Over game: Two lines are formed with participants standing close together. The ball must travel under the legs to the person behind, then over the head of the next participant. Once you have passed the ball to the next person, you run to the back of the line. This continues until the first full team passes the finishing cones. Note: to make more difficult, use different size balls 1 min *Water Break X Finish line -------------------------------- Start line -------------------------------Team 1 Team 2 X X X X X X X X X X X X ACTIVITY TWO 5 mins + 1 min moving to next activity Fruit Salad: Speed This is a whole class activity, there is 2 lines (of pairs) versing each other. Sitting down with legs extended across your partner, with feet touching. Once your allocated number is called you have to run through people’s legs (like a ladder) and then sit back down in your spot. First person to return to their spot, gets the point (their team). Note: To make more difficult, instead of just running, can incorporate hop or 2-foot jumping. They may only pick one bean bag/object up at a time and return it the their nest. Participants do not need to run through the obstacle course when robbing the other’s nest. xxx xxx obstacles obstacles obstacles An obstacle course is set up in a criss-cross formation with four hoops at each end. The participants will complete the obstacle course, grab one bean bag and run back to their hoop, place the bean bag in and high five the next participant to go. Note: Each leg of the course will be slightly different, depending on equipment available. 4 xxx 2 xxx obstacles x 3 x xxxx participants Note: throughout the game, only one person from each group can be running at one time. Only 1 beanbag/object can be taken at a time. Note: injured participants will be looked after individually with a leader, if they can’t participate in the game in some way. 1 min *Water Break COOL DOWN 5 mins Finish Octopus: All children will come together, with the participants designated as the taggers. Upon coaches command participants will cross avoiding the taggers. If tagged, participants must stand in spot and act as seaweed tagging those who come near.
