CHSM305 (DK0) Learning Plan Student Name Background and Understanding Goal setting theory suggests that setting goals is linked to task performance and that goals are achieved when 1) they are clearly defined; 2) they are challenging and 3) there is commitment from organizational members to achieve them (Johns & Saks, 2020). With this in mind, I intend to implement a learning plan that considers these key components. I recognize that I have many commitments over the next few months. I am completing three courses, and have multiple personal commitments such as, supporting my children during virtual learning. I am excited about this course and understand I will need to implement a plan with specific goals to ensure that I effectively manage my time in order to get the most out of this course. Managing these multiple commitments over these first few weeks of the term has been a challenge. Problem Statement My academic and family commitments require significant time therefore strong organization and time management practices will be necessary to ensure they meet course deadlines and family commitments. During the first two weeks of the semester, I was challenged to meet my commitments and as a result I adjusted my schedule. Goal for CHSM305 My goal for this course will be to dedicate at least 10 hours per week, according to the schedule below, to complete readings, module content, discussion review/contributions/responses, and associated assignments. To accomplish this goal, I am considering the following SMARTER components Specific Prioritize time management according to the schedule below. Measurable Mon: Required readings, module content review, discussion contribution (~5 hours) Wed: Review other student’s posts, respond and contribute to discussions (~2 hours) Thurs: Assignment Research and Completion i.e. HSO profile and Case Study (~2 hours) Fri: Supplementary review and/or assignment completion as required (~1 hour) Time and details will be recorded for tracking and success measurement and continuous feedback. Achievable The learning plan schedule will require time management. It is achievable with the help of a full weekly schedule of all weekly commitments. This full schedule will be completed as a priority on Monday morning. Strategies to ensure that priorities are met will include scheduling 1 hour of work early in the day i.e. 6:30-7:30AM and scheduling additional time on Tuesday as required. Similar plans will be applied to other courses and commitments to mitigate the risk of scheduling conflicts and other commitments interfering with the CHSM305 learning plan. Relevant Maintaining a manageable schedule will increase my focus and enrich all areas of my life, including academic and family. Timeframe The initial schedule will be executed for 10 weeks from January 2021– April 2021. Exciting Following this learning plan will promote less stress and more family time allowing me to be a better more focused learner and caregiver. Review Weekly schedule review and tracking will provide visual tools and feedback illustrating a record of achievement, building confidence and enthusiasm for continued success. 1 Reference: Johns, G. & Saks, A.
