ARGENTO , Le Petit Poisson
Argento, the little fish
Il était une fois, dans la mer profonde,
un tout petit poisson argenté qui
s'appelait Argento.
Il avait plein de frères et de sœurs,
de cousins et de cousines,
qui nageaient toujours ensemble,
comme s'ils n'étaient qu'un seul poisson.
Seul Argento aimait nager loin,
à l'écart des autres.
Once upon a time, in the deep sea,
was a tiny silver fish
called Argento.
He had lots of brothers and sisters,
male cousins and female cousins
who always swam together,
as if they were one fish.
Only Argento liked to swim far,
away from others.
Le voici.
N'est-ce pas qu'il est mignon ?
Here it is.
Isn't he cute?
Il aimait se promener dans la mer
pour rencontrer d'autres poissons,
grands et petits,
maigres et gros.
Et parfois même
des hippocampes.
He liked to walk in the sea
to meet other fish,
big and small,
lean and fat.
And sometimes even
seahorses.
Un matin, Argento nagea très loin.
La mer était tranquille et bleue.
Soudain,
il vit une grande masse noire.
C'est sûrement une montagne, pensa
Argento.
One morning, Argento swam very far.
The sea was calm and blue.
Suddenly,
he saw a large black mass.
It must be a mountain, thought Argento

Ou peut-être pas...
Il se rapprocha prudemment.
Or maybe not...
He approached cautiously.
Il s'approcha encore un peu...
Au milieu de la grande masse noire,
il y avait un œil qui le regardait.
Et une grosse larme coulait du grand œil,
au milieu de la grande masse noire.
He came a little closer...
In the middle of the great black mass,
there was an eye looking at him.
And a big tear fell from the big eye,
in the middle of the great black mass.
Oh là là,
pensa petit Argento,
ce n'est pas du tout une montagne,
car les montagnes n'ont pas d'yeux
et elles ne pleurent pas.
Alors, qu'est-ce donc ?
Oh dear,
thought little Argento,
it's not a mountain at all,
because the mountains have no eyes
and they don't cry.
So what is it?
Il se mit à nager tout doucement autour
de l'étrange montagne,
et arriva de l'autre côté,
sous l'œil qui pleurait.
He began to swim slowly around the
strange mountain,
and arrived on the other side,
under the weeping eye.
Il y avait là des bandes blanches,
brillantes, longues, et soudain, à travers
les bandes,
Argento entendit une grosse voix,
pareille à mille tambours.
Et la voix dit:
Qui es-tu, petit poisson?
There were white bands there,
bright, long, and suddenly, through
the bands,
Argento heard a loud voice,
like a thousand drums.
And the voice said:
Who are you, little fish?
Argento fit deux cabrioles dans l'eau.
Moi? dit-il,
Je suis un petit poisson argenté,
Je m'appelle Argento.
Et toi, qui es-tu?
Et la voix repondit :
Je suis une baleine!
Argento did two somersaults in the water.
Me? he said,
I am a little silver fish,
my name is Argento.
And you, who are you?
And the voice replied:
I am a whale!
Ah, vraiment? dit Argento.
Je n'ai jamais vu de baleine.
Mais tu es tellement grande!
Je voudrais te voir tout entière...
Ah really? Argento said.
I have never seen a whale.
But you are so huge!
I would like to see you all...
Bien sûr, dit la baleine.
Mais tu es trop près.
Si tu veux me voir entièrement,
tu dois t'éloigner.
Sure, said the whale.
But you are too close.
If you want to see me completely,
you have to go further away.

Argento commença à s'éloigner.
Mais la baleine était si grande, et si large,
qu'elle paraissait sans fin
et qu'on ne voyait même pas sa queue.
Éloigne-toi encore !
lui cria la baleine.
Et Argento nagea en arrière,
et encore en arrière...
Argento started to go further away.
But the whale was so big, and so wide,
that it seemed endless
and you couldn't even see his tail.
Go further away again!
cried the whale.
And Argento swam back,
and back (further)again...
Et il vit enfin toute la baleine.
Waouh! cria Argento de loin.
Tu es tellement immense!
Mais pourquoi pleures-tu ?
On dirait un bébé.
And he finally saw the whole whale.
Wow! Argento shouted from afar.
You are so huge!
But why are you crying?
(looking) like a baby.
Je suis vraiment toute petite,
gémit la baleine.
Je me suis perdue en nageant,
et maintenant je ne sais plus
où sont mon papa et ma maman!
Et elle sanglota bruyamment.
De grosses larmes
coulèrent de ses yeux,
ploc, ploc, ploc!
I'm really tiny,
moaned the whale.
I got lost swimming
and now I don't know (at all)
where are my mom and dad!
And she sobbed loudly.
big tears
flowed from those eyes,
plop, plop, plop!
Ne pleure pas, dit Argento,
en s'approchant de la baleine.
Ne pleure pas, je vais t'aider.
Je vais retrouver ton papa
et ta maman, d'accord?
Don't cry, said Argento,
approaching the whale.
Don't cry, I'll help you.
I will find your daddy
and your mom, okay?
Et Argento appela aussitôt ses
frères et sœurs,
ses cousins et ses cousines,
And Argento immediately called his
brothers and sisters,
his male cousins and his female cousins
et tous apparurent très vite,
comme des flèches argentées.
De tous côtés, ils s'élancèrent
à la recherche de Papa
et Maman Baleine.
Pendant ce temps,
Argento resta avec son amie.
Ne t'inquiète pas, lui dit-il,
ils vont vite les retrouver.
and all appeared very quickly,
like silver arrows.
From all sides they rushed
looking for daddy
and Mama Whale.
During this time,
Argento stayed with his friend.
Don't worry, he told her,
they will soon find them.

Et en effet, la baleine
n'eut même pas le temps d'essuyer ses
larmes
que tous les poissons d'argent revinrent
accompagnés de Papa et Maman
Baleine.
And indeed, the whale
didn't even have time to wipe away her
tears
that all the silverfish came back
accompanied by Papa and Mama
Whale.
Si grands!
Si énormes!
Si heureux et joyeux !
So big!
So huge!
So happy and joyful!
Ils nagèrent
en faisant de grands cercles
autour de la petite baleine,
et dirent merci à Argento.
Et encore merci,
et merci beaucoup.
Jusqu'à ce que la nuit tombe.
They swam
making big circles
around the little whale,
and said thank you to Argento.
And thank you again,
and thank you very much.
Until night fell.
Puis, tous se dirent bonne nuit,
et au revoir.
Et ils rentrèrent à la maison.
Then everyone said good night
and goodbye.
And they returned home.
Et depuis,
chaque jour,
petit Argento joue
avec la baleine,
et la baleine joue
avec petit Argento.
And since (then),
every day,
little Argento plays
with the whale,
and the whale plays
with little Argento.
Argento n'a pas peur
Et les larmes de la baleine
ne coulent plus,
et tous deux
sont de très bons amis.
Argento is not afraid
And the tears of the whale
no longer flow,
and both
are very good friends.
