PARABLE OF THE TEN MINAS (LUKE 19:11-27) 12 THEREFORE HE SAID: “A CERTAIN NOBLEMAN WENT INTO A FAR COUNTRY TO RECEIVE FOR HIMSELF A KINGDOM AND TO RETURN. 13 SO HE CALLED TEN OF HIS SERVANTS, DELIVERED TO THEM TEN MINAS, AND SAID TO THEM, ‘DO BUSINESS TILL I COME.’ 14 BUT HIS CITIZENS HATED HIM, AND SENT A DELEGATION AFTER HIM, SAYING, ‘WE WILL NOT HAVE THIS MAN TO REIGN OVER US.’ 15 “AND SO IT WAS THAT WHEN HE RETURNED, HAVING RECEIVED THE KINGDOM, HE THEN COMMANDED THESE SERVANTS, TO WHOM HE HAD GIVEN THE MONEY, TO BE CALLED TO HIM, THAT HE MIGHT KNOW HOW MUCH EVERY MAN HAD GAINED BY TRADING. 16 THEN CAME THE FIRST, SAYING, ‘MASTER, YOUR MINA HAS EARNED TEN MINAS.’ 17 AND HE SAID TO HIM, ‘WELL DONE, GOOD SERVANT; BECAUSE YOU WERE FAITHFUL IN A VERY LITTLE, HAVE AUTHORITY OVER TEN CITIES.’ 18 AND THE SECOND CAME, SAYING, ‘MASTER, YOUR MINA HAS EARNED FIVE MINAS.’ 19 LIKEWISE HE SAID TO HIM, ‘YOU ALSO BE OVER FIVE CITIES.’ 20 “THEN ANOTHER CAME, SAYING, ‘MASTER, HERE IS YOUR MINA, WHICH I HAVE KEPT PUT AWAY IN A HANDKERCHIEF. 21 FOR I FEARED YOU, BECAUSE YOU ARE AN AUSTERE MAN. YOU COLLECT WHAT YOU DID NOT DEPOSIT, AND REAP WHAT YOU DID NOT SOW.’ 22 AND HE SAID TO HIM, ‘OUT OF YOUR OWN MOUTH I WILL JUDGE YOU, YOU WICKED SERVANT. YOU KNEW THAT I WAS AN AUSTERE MAN, COLLECTING WHAT I DID NOT DEPOSIT AND REAPING WHAT I DID NOT SOW. 23 WHY THEN DID YOU NOT PUT MY MONEY IN THE BANK, THAT AT MY COMING I MIGHT HAVE COLLECTED IT WITH INTEREST?’ 24 “AND HE SAID TO THOSE WHO STOOD BY, ‘TAKE THE MINA FROM HIM, AND GIVE IT TO HIM WHO HAS TEN MINAS.’ 25 (BUT THEY SAID TO HIM, ‘MASTER, HE HAS TEN MINAS.’) 26 ‘FOR I SAY TO YOU, THAT TO EVERYONE WHO HAS WILL BE Credits GIVEN; AND FROM HIM WHO DOES NOT HAVE, EVEN WHAT HE HAS WILL BE TAKEN AWAY FROM HIM. 27 BUT BRING HERE THOSE ENEMIES OF MINE, WHO DID NOT WANT ME TO REIGN OVER THEM, AND SLAY THEM BEFORE ME.’ ” Servants A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, ‘Do business till I come'. One minas to each of the ten servants Do business till I come: While the master was away, receiving his kingdom, the servants were expected to do business – to use the resources that the master gave them, and to use them to the utmost. Citizens But his citizens hated him We will not have this man to reign over us These citizens hated him, and they made it clear to the nobleman. In Jesus’ parable, the nobleman did nothing to deserve this rejection; it was only because the citizens had hearts full of hate. When Master returns, having received the kingdom When the master returned, he dealt first with his servants. He later dealt with the rebellious citizens He first wanted to know how faithful his servants had been in his absence Servants Master Reward Well done, good servant because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities Second - Master, your mina has earned five minas 1 mina to 5 minas (500%) Well done, good servant Likewise he said to him, ‘You also be over five cities.’” Master, here is your mina, which I have kept put away in a handkerchief. For I feared you, because you are an austere man. Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant- Why then did you not put my money in the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest? Take the mina from him, and give it to him who has ten minas First - Master, your mina has earned ten minas 1 mina to 10 minas (1000%) Judgment day comes for the master’s enemies But bring here those enemies of mine - Who did not want me to reign over them And slay them before me Summary of the Parable Jesus spoke this parable that He would depart and return again before the kingdom came in full glory, and to tell them how to conduct in His absence. the kingdom will be delayed, so we must concentrate on being faithful servants in the meantime. Our Master has gone away to a far country, and will one day return with His kingdom. In the meantime, we are commanded to do business with what He has given us until He returns. we should not stand still. We use our gifts and make progress or we lose what we have Gospel of the kingdom given to each person who professes to believe in Christ When our Master returns, He will come to reward us according to our faithfulness, and we will be rewarded with different levels of authority in His kingdom What is that which made servants earn more Minas The servants were given money to invest and work with to see how much they could increase the amount. The servants who invested the master’s money faced the risk of being attacked by those around them who rejected the master’s authority. And they faced the risk of disappointing their master by making investments that might lose money. The servant who tries to avoid risk is singled out as unfaithful. It is not told what would have happened if the other two servants had lost money on their investments, but the implication is that all investments made in faithful service to God are pleasing to him How does it connect to us in the present world 1 Mina is our spiritual gifts, abilities and talents - are we investing them for the Kingdom of God? Or are we ashamed to show to the world that we are associated with the Kingdom of God and hiding our talents? 5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who “will render to each one according to his deeds” Romans 2:5-6 Bro. Sunil Citizens condition is related to us; as in the the current world (citizens), it is a challenge when we show our association with Christ. In Old and new testament all of those who had faith were able to succeed in God's work - Daniel, Joseph, Apostle Paul just because they trusted in God. The last servant was selfish and might not had expected Master to give such a big reward as he trusted himself and was selfish. How are we using our talents to expand Gods' Kingdom and help one another and God rewards for those who have humbly expected his will be done in their lives. William Carey was a cobbler and God had blessed him to impact India as a nation, who is an example for the 1st servant, this is the character which were need to have. Bro. Oliver: Even citizens were against the servants and servants had to stand faithful which was toughest, even God wants fruit when it is not the season. We need to invest our talent and if we delay time will go off and we will not have time to achieve things for his kingdom, we should ask ourselves to check our investment in God's Kingdom. We are here to work for the work of God.
