recession? We lost our jobs easily. Thus, we need to find other
alternative, income and wages to support our basic expanses.
Here is an engineer who lost her job and she faced her
challenge bravely to select an unexpected job as delivery rider.
Below is the interview session.
Interviewer: Is it challenging to an experienced rider day and night?
Rider: Yes, we need to ready to face any challenge especially heavy
downpour. We need to be extra cautious or careful when we carry
our customers’ parcel and food packages.
Interviewer: Is it challenging or stressful for you to be a responsible
delivery rider?
Rider: Yes, it could be stressful if you think it as a task to accomplish.
When you see the satisfaction portrayed by your customer, you
feel relieved and happy. You will be motivated and passionate to
be a professional delivery rider even though you own different
degree from you previous workplace.
Interviewer: It is sounds interesting from your perspectives of view. I am
curious why you choose to register and work as a delivery
rider at the first place? Is the amount of salary? The
flexibility of working hour?
Rider: To be honest with you, I did own a degree from business
administration profession. I have been worked in aviation
company for ten years but it changed drastically when the
outbreak of pandemic in several continents. I am the sole bread
of the family. I need to work to support my family. Therefore, I try
and register to be a delivery rider. Surprisingly, it works for me. It
is flexible according to my personal schedule. I have extra time to
take care of my elderly parents and work at the same time
without any hassle.
Interviewer: It sounds good for you to be able to earn income during the
pandemic recession.
Rider: Yes, being a delivery rider is one of the alternatives to earn income.
This is because you can rearrange your schedule to cater your
needs especially you need to accompany our parents for doctor’s
appointment. It is difficult to balance a hectic lifestyle and
generate your desired income at the same time. I believe everyone
deserves a chance to learn how to overcome the difficulties during
the restriction of pandemic.
Interviewer: Ermnnnn…. It reminds me about the recession of pandemic.
How about your monthly income?
Rider: It depends on the unpredictable weather, customers’ review and
dedication.
Narrator: It sounds like complicated than we thought. Let us watch the
interview further.
Interviewer: Can you explain these details further?
Rider: Since our country is located in the Equatorial line, we will
experience monsoon season and drought season. Therefore, we
need to be prepare for the uncertainty. You need to have at least
two raincoats for the rainy day and inspect safety equipment like
elbow and knee protector, inner, helmet, safety lights, phone
holder, rear rack during day and night.
Interviewer: It sounds complicated to me. How about customers’ review?
Rider: You need to be passionate for the job and patient at the same time.
This is because there are some customers who love to call you
when you are getting stuck in the congested traffic. You need to
avoid busy facilities like high-traffic truck stops, restaurants, rest
stops regardless the strategic position in the town area. When you
reach your destination, you need to friendly to handle the parcel
to your future customers.
Interviewer: I think no one earn quick cash now. It seems that you are
devoted to your work to earn good review from your customers.
When the economic is slowly recovering, are you going to resign
the delivery job?
Rider: Yes, you need to work hard to earn other’s respect. It is isn’t easy
task to accomplish. You need your customers to be able to tolerate
with you because we don’t know each other’s at the first sight.
Therefore, the riders really need their customers to give good
reviews in order for them to generate continuous income from the
future customers. Trust me, it is harder than you thought. Next, I
don’t think I will resign when the lift of pandemic restriction. I will
continue to work and gain alternative income at the same time.
Interviewer: It sounds surprising from your point of view. Why would you
want to continue to work as a delivery rider even though the
economic is slowly recovering? Could you share with us?
Rider: For your information, the delivery profession is less competitive
compared to my previous field which is business administration.
Furthermore, you can gain experience every day. Everyday is an
adventure to me. It is like a chocolate box. You cannot predict
what you are going to gain and acquire at the same time. In
addition, I did mentioned previously. I choose to be a delivery rider
because of its flexibility. I can choose to work at any time because
I need to take care of my elderly parents. I was lucky enough to
have supportive branch manager and kind-hearted colleagues
when I have face any difficulties.
