THE INFLUENCE OF ONLINE LEARNING TOWARDS THE HAPPINESS INDEX OF GRADE 11 ABM 2 STUDENTS OF UNIVERSITY OF BOHOL SENIOR HIGHSCHOOL In Partial Fulfillment of the requirements in Practical Research 1 MEMBERS: JALA, BILLY JOHN CABALIT, MIRCHAELO BESAS, ANGELO CATITIG, RYE ANGELO MORTEJO, KEZIA FAITH MEJORADA, ACHILLES CALAMBA, JOHN RHEYMER ANTHONY VIRGIL MARI GUALDE MA. SHAIRA KIM CAGATA, LPT Research Adviser INTRODUCTION Online learning communities facilitate communication between people who share common interests and learn collaboratively using networked technologies. Researchers and designers have to understand social practices in order to explore and develop technological tools for such collaboration and communication. Online learning is education that takes place over the internet. It is often reffered to as “e-learning” among other terms. However, online learning is just one type of “distance learning” - the umbrella term for any learning takes place across distance and not in a traditional classroom. The Happiness Index is a tool for the use of researchers, community organizers and policy makers seeking to understand and enhance individual happiness, community well-being, social justice, economic equality, and environmental sustainability The widespread use of online learning has had a profound impact on higher education. However, empirical studies of this delivery strategy have trailed behind this trend. Many people have noted the necessity for research on the characteristics of online students, but the literature currently available only includes anecdotal evidence and personal teaching experiences. The authors carried out three research to address these problems. For more than two decades, education research has continually focused on online learning as a concept and a buzzword. (Singh, V., & Thurman In this research you will be able to acquire knowledge on how does the online learning influence the students towards its happiness index. Due to the COVID19 outbreak, schools were compelled to close their campuses and implement online learning on the majority of students. However, the quick switch to online learning has brought up a number of problems that have not been handled. While numerous studies have looked into how students felt about online learning throughout the pandemic, there have been conflicting findings. Online learning is one of the ongoing trends in the global education industry. The internet is used for this type of learning. This form of learning has been made easier with new and improved apps and technologies. Higher education institutions favor online learning as well. Students in our generation can get significant advantages through online learning, such as new abilities, increase independence, the ability to learn at their own speed, family time, problemsolving and the ability to research their subjects and studies thoroughly using the internet. Cons, however more duty at home, loneliness, and technical difficulties. The benefits typically outweigh the drawbacks. Students were somewhat capable from online learning because in the other hand they have much time to study at home, however it influence the students through their lifestyle and on how they’ll manage their time equally. Because of the global corona virus illness 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, online schooling became a pillar for students. LEGAL BASES Department of Education DepEd Order No.018, s. 2020 20 JULY 2020 POLICY GUIDELINES FOR THE PROVISION OF LEARNING RESOURCES IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE BASIC EDUCATION LEARNING CONTINUITY PLAN The public health emergency brought about by COVID-19 calls for the Department of Education (DepEd) to be innovative and resourceful in delivering quality, accessible, relevant, and liberating education. In response to this emergency, DepEd developed the Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan (BE-LCP) to ensure that learning opportunities are provided to our learners in a safe manner, through different learning delivery. In line with this, the Department, through its Regional and Schools Division Offices undertake the urgent and necessary development, production and provision of learning resources, in accordance with its mandate. The 1987 Constitution states in Article XIV, Sections 1 and 2 RELATED THEORIES The quick and widespread adoption and dispersion of online learning, or e-learning, is a significant development that has some people concerned and others excited. Online learning is becoming more popular among people and their communities as they learn, share knowledge, and build their own communities of inquiry, whether for formal degree completion or personal development. New technologies are inspiring new educational and learning practices in fully online settings as well as in hybrid, on and off-line contexts, and the new environments are inspiring new behaviors. Online learning is now roughly 17 years old [1] and, in many cases, relies on years of success in distant education and the use of computers in the classroom (such as the PLATO system, http://www.physics.uiuc.edu/history/PLATO.htm). Teachers have been focused on how to educate in the new online environment for the past 17 years, and there are now conferences, journals, books, and degrees that cover this topic. Administrators, students, and employers have been debating whether online learning is "as good as" offline learning. Numerous research have looked at this issue, with the results mainly being inconclusive (see for example, Russell, 2001). The authors of this paper have all been working with and researching online learning for most of its lifetime. We combine expertise in examining teaching, learning, and social interaction online in degree–granting and professional development environments. We share a common focus on practice – emergent practice – occurring at the intersection of teaching, learning and ICT use, affecting and affected by social change, community practice, and individual meaning–making around technology and online social interaction. Review of Related Literature RELATED LITERATURE’S Online Learning, as defined by: A common definition of online learning as opposed to face-to-face (F2F) learning is that there is no physical classroom present; instead, web-based technologies are used to provide opportunities for outside-of-class learning that are independent of time, place, and pace. It should be noted, however, that "in the context of higher education, the phrase online learning is often interpreted as referencing courses that are offered online." (Bernard et al., 2014; p. 286). Review of Related Studies The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID19) pandemic caused significant disruption to teaching and learning activities at all levels. Faculty, students, institutions, and parents have had to rapidly adapt and adopt measures to make the best use of available resources, tools and teaching strategies. This has led a large number of researchers to share challenges, solutions and knowledge gleaned during this period. The main aim of this researchers/studies was to thematically model the literature related to teaching and learning during, and about, COVID-19. The research encompassed diverse scientific disciplines, including social sciences, computer science, and life sciences, as well as learnings in support systems, including libraries, information technology, and mental health. Statement of the Problem This study aims to know the influence of online learning to the happiness index of Grade 11 ABM 2 students of University of Bohol school year 2022-2023 1.what is the profile of the respondent in terms of 1. Sex: 2.What is the respondent’s perception towards online learning? 3. What is the respondents level of happiness index? 4. What is the significant relationship between the respondent’s profile and their perception towards online learning? 5. What is the significant relationship between the respondent’s profile and their level of happiness index? 6. What is the significant correlation between the happiness index and online learning? 7. What proposed enhancement programs can be made based on the findings of the study? Significance of the Study Our study will benefit the future of online learning. The greater good of having quality education, the main beneficiaries will be the students, they will be having a more vibrant way of learning, and the teachers. Online courses teach students how to manage their time better since the student bears the responsibility of engaging with the course instead of simply showing up to class on an assigned day and time. As a result, students not only gain knowledge from the coursework, but they also sharpen their time management skills. Students often reported that happiness, or positive feelings like enjoyment or fun, promotes learning.” They cited many reasons for their positive feelings, including feeling safe and comfortable at school and having secure relationships with their teachers and their peers RESEARCH METHODOLOGY DESIGN This study is qualitative research. A Standardized questionnaire is the Primarily Instrument that is used in this study. It will gather sufficient data for our study’s objectives, which is to determine the Influence of Online Learning towards the Happiness Index of the Grade 11 University of Bohol Senior High School ABM 2 student’s in the school year 2022-2023, in terms of their satisfaction. The said data will then be computed, interpreted and analyzed by the statistical treatment used. DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE: Post Pandemic- Covid 19, The University of Bohol opened up their gates into having a limited face-to-face classes inside the campus. While abiding the safety protocols enforced by the government. Henceforward, we gathered data face-face while following the Health and safety protocols. Statistical Treatment With the data collected, Researchers used three formulas in computing and interpreting the Impact and Relationship of Online Learning and Happiness Index. Frequency Percentage Formula -is used to interpret the percentage of the number of respondents falling under a category by the total of respondents. Table 3 Happiness Index Scale SCALING DESCRIPTORS INTERPRETATION STRONGLY DISAGREE Not happy. If you answered honestly and got a very low score, you’re probably seeing yourself and your 1-2 situation as worse than it really is. I recommend taking the Depression Symptoms test (CES‐D 2 Questionnaire) at the University of Pennsylvania’s “Authentic Happiness” Testing Center. You’ll have to register, but this is beneficial because there are a lot of good tests there and you can re‐take them later and compare your scores. MODERATELY DISAGREE 2-3 Somewhat unhappy. Try some of the exercises on this site like the Gratitude Journal & Gratitude Lists, or the Gratitude Visit; or take a look at the “Authentic Happiness” site mentioned immediately above. Oxford Happiness Questionnaire 3-4 SLIGHTLY DISAGREE Not particularly happy or unhappy. A score of 3.5 would be an exact numerical average of happy and unhappy responses. Some of the exercises mentioned just above have been tested in scientific studies and have been shown to make people lastingly happier. 4 SLIGHTLY AGREE Somewhat happy or moderately happy. Satisfied. This is what the average person scores. 4-5 SLIGHTLY AGREE : Rather happy; pretty happy. Check other score ranges for some of my suggestions. 5-6 MODERATELY AGREE Very happy. Being happy has more benefits than just feeling good. It’s correlated with benefits like health, better marriages, and attaining your goals. Check back – I’ll be writing a post about this topic soon. 6. STRONGLY AGREE Too happy. Yes, you read that right. Recent research seems to show that there’s an optimal level of happiness for things like doing well at work or school, or for being healthy, and that being “too happy” may be associated with lower levels of such things.
