Chemistry Topic Example
In the beginning of episode 7, season 1 of Breaking Bad, Walter White teaches his high school
chemistry class about fast and slow reactions. He says a fast reaction occurs with a chemical
such as _____, which would cause an explosion. At the end of the episode, Walt uses that same
chemical compound to blow up Tuco’s apartment and threaten him to buy his methamphetamine.
I thought the contrast of how the chemical was used in the beginning of the episode to teach a
bored high school class, to using it for such extreme measures to blow up an apartment to sell
drugs at the end of the episode. Chemistry is what makes up everything. It can be interpreted in a
simple, mundane sense, to an extreme and explosive sense. Chemistry can be used in all sorts of
settings.
