Title: Unpaid community service in high school programs
Introduction
Community service is very important to a society, especially when it is unpaid. It is a positive contribution
from individuals towards their society as it affects both students and community members positively. Argument has
been raised in the society these days whether unpaid security service should be a mandatory part of high school
programs. Although some people believe that such service does not bring any good, there are undeniable benefits of
it because such work helps in planting good values in students’ characters, preparing skilled citizen for tomorrow,
and improving neighbourhood.
Body 1
First, community service is a source of positive examples, ideas and beliefs. Working for charity, organizing
sports activities, walking kids from school, or helping the elderly bring young people together and make them feel
more responsible and organized. They start feeling part of a community and start understanding the value of help
and cooperation. All these positive values are crucial in the modern society that puts too much focus on violence and
profit. Working for the local community inserts a spirit of community, gives younger generation understanding that
this society is theirs and that it is their responsibility to improve it.
Body 2
Another point that can be added to prove the value of unpaid community service is that it helps in developing
students’ skills which are needed for their future life. Modern employers are looking for skills like leadership,
innovation, creation, adaptability, and many others when they hire employees. Equipping the student with this handson experience is important added value for his or her resume. This will enhance the quality of working hands in the
labour market which in return will help to enhance the economy and decrease unemployment rates.
Body 3
The opponents believe that unpaid community service means putting more load on students in that age which
may negatively affect their overall performance in school subjects. However, if properly organized, this threat can
be diminished. Workload can be limited to by time, for example 2-3 hours a week. In additions, it could be gradable,
so working for community will give students the opportunity to increase their overall score. Most importantly, it will
improve the state of the neighbourhood, and the students will feel part of it. Taking care of community cannot be
only government’s responsibility, but it is everyone's.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it is logical to support enforcing unpaid community service as compulsory part in high schools
programs. This benefits the students as they develop positive attitude to life and develop important skills that will
be helpful in their future careers. Besides, it positively affects the entire community as people become more
responsible, caring and are ready to invest their effort for the development of the society. In fact, students should not
graduate without showing positive contribution for their community.
