Transdisciplinary Theme: How the World Works
The transdisciplinary theme "How the world works" is one of the six themes in the International
Baccalaureate's Primary Years Programme (PYP). This theme focuses on exploring the natural, physical,
and technological systems that shape our world. Under this theme, students may learn about:
1. Natural systems, including the study of living organisms and their relationships with one another
and their environments.
2. Physical systems, including the study of matter and energy and their interactions.
3. Technological systems, including the design and development of tools and machines.
4. Scientific inquiry, including the process of observing, questioning, and testing.
5. The impact of scientific and technological advancements on individuals and society.
Through inquiry-based learning, students can explore these concepts in a meaningful and relevant
way, connecting their learning to real-life situations and making connections to their own experiences.
The goal is to help students develop an understanding of how the world works and to encourage them
to think critically about the impact of science and technology on society and the environment.
