The Leadership and Community Health Capstones are designed to give students an understanding of the principles of effective leadership and its application in community health initiatives. Through a combination of lectures, case studies, field visits, and collaborative team projects, students will develop the necessary skills to lead multi-sectoral initiatives to improve public health outcomes. The program focuses on evidence-based approaches to community engagement, health policy advocacy, resource mobilization, and the development of local partnerships. Students will gain valuable insights into how leaders can empower communities to take ownership of their health outcomes and create lasting change. At the end of the course, participants should be equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to become successful community health leaders. The capstone also allows students to develop their professional networks and gain invaluable mentorship from experienced practitioners. Throughout the course, participants will be supported by faculty and staff who specialize in community health leadership. In addition, they will collaborate with local organizations in the public health field and benefit from practical, handson experience. By engaging in meaningful dialogue with individuals invested in improving health equity, students can hone their communication skills while gaining valuable insights into real-world problems facing communities today. By the end of the course, students will have a comprehensive understanding of practical community health leadership principles and practices that can be applied to any context or situation. They should also possess a vision for leading multi-sectoral initiatives toward equitable success.
