I am writing to express my interest in the Master's program in International Media Studies at Hochschule
Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University, which begins in September 2022. In 2018, I graduated from Bangladesh,
Varendra University in English Literature. During exploring the vast ocean of classic and contemporary
literature pieces I became fascinated by the seemingly limitless possibilities of new media and realized
that I have countless curiosities about this field.
My interest in art as a unique medium of communication led me to enroll in numerous media workshops
during my bachelor's degree program. I wanted to find a way to incorporate literature into media theories
to supplement my major studies, and courses like Shakespeare, Critical Discourse Analysis, Media
Studies, and other several literary courses increased my interest in media studies. Which inspired me to
create a media production house with two of my friend in 2017 and we named our production house
“Chosma Production”. With minimum logistic support and zero prior film-making experience, we managed
to produce 3 social awareness short films, 5 music videos, and 2 vines with almost 150 subscribers on
our Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl2Cse_5fq2-N6kq3JgPr4Q). And “Chosma
Production” achieved the first runner-up position in an interuniversity film festival in 2018. Unfortunately,
our work stopped as I moved to another city for my Master's in English in 2019.
'Critical Discourse Analysis,' is one of my master’s courses, sparked my curiosity in new media. This class
taught me how language, color, cinematic views, character development, costume, background music
can manipulate the audience. During this course, I submitted an assignment on Marvel Movie Franchise
and the title of the paper was “Critical Discourse Analysis of Marvel Cinematic Universe”. By analyzing the
discourse samples, film budget, and costume I tried to find a pattern behind the enormous worldwide
success of these films. The main quest of the paper was to shed light on Americanization via Superhero
movies from Marvel. I achieved an 80% mark on this course. Another course “English for the Media”
translucent my concept on lexical usage in the media sector. And after combining all the lessons I am
fascinated by the power of media and how impactful it can be if it can be used positively.
As my curriculum vitae states I have prior experience of working as an Administrative Assistant and as a
teacher. However, I want to switch my discipline and pursue my future career in the media sector as I
have good communication skills, creativity, and an expressive mentality. Though my professional
experience did not provide me a lot of room to furnish my media-related skills yet I never stopped
learning. With the help of the internet and youtube, I have taught myself using software like Adobe
Premiere Pro, Wondershare Filmora, and FL Studio. In my leisure time, I love to edit videos, watch classic
and contemporary movies, write reviews of movies on social media, write scripts, and do some musical
experiments on FL studio. However, whenever I get any task at my workplace I always try to collect
footage and make short videos out of it and do not miss a single opportunity to use any of this software
for a project.
I want to use this opportunity to study media and pursue my career in this sector. This course is perfect
for me as it gives the students boundless opportunities and a culturally diverse classroom with promising
faculty members. However, after going through the course plan I realized that the course plan itself is
enough to prepare a media personality with proper knowledge and skill. At the same time, Hochschule
Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University is a very reputed university and well-known for quality education. I will be
fortunate if I get the scope to study International Media Studies at your university.
