A School Boy’s Apology has the narrative poetry type. As defined, a narrative poem tells a story;
it has a full storyline with all the elements of a traditional story. At the same time, the A School
Boy’s Apology also contains a story about how his memory of the war haunts him wherever he is
and affects his behavior in school

 The poem's main theme was trauma. The schoolboy's past, which included a war that was
undoubtedly terrible, was still having an impact on him. Even though he is no longer in that
stage of his life, the memories of that dramatic incident in his life still haunt him
Message of the poem

The poem ' s message was that dealing with a traumatic event is not something to
take lightly. Healing takes time; it might even take years. Being a part of or
experiencing a traumatic incident can be so devastating that it impacts both you and
your activities, such as academics. Because we never know what other people are
going through or what silent battles they are fighting alone, we must always have
empathy for them
